11 days out and feeling like crap - Vets??
Going to my 2 week check up tomorrow but just wondering is this normal.
I was getting stronger a little everyday...walking 10 -15 minutes 2 x daily,
doing light house work, cooking for my family. Felt motivated to do things.
I wasn't over doing...I got my rest too. Drinking 32 oz. of water plus
a 1 zero cal. Vitamin Water daily. Sorry at this stage I cannot get 64 oz. in.
Getting about 3 proteins down daily but really thats only about 300 calories.
Then a few days ago I started feeling really run down, had no drive to do anything
and would get sweaty and clammy when I walked.
Checked BP, it was okay. Losing at a rate of 1 - 2 lbs. daily.
So is this typical of the surgery recovery stage?
Kinda feel like 3 steps forward, two steps back.
Oh I'm 60 yrs. old,so maybe taking longer to bounce back?
Thanks for any advise.

It's probably related to lack of fluid consumption. Unfortunately, water is the best recovery aid and if you're lacking there, it can cause an entire slew of issues from fatigue, nausea, UTIs, and other recovery related symptoms.
2oz of clear fluids every 15 minutes over an 8 hour period is 64oz of clear fluids. If you are awake a minimum of 12-14 hours, this should be accomplished even around the 30 minute rule of not drinking after eating.
Try sipping/drinking decaf tea, broth, sugar free popsicles/jello, sugar free gatorade/powerade etc all count as clear fluids.

How's your vitamin intake??? b12 is water soluble, we don't absorb it properly due to the intrinsic factor removing during VSG so we are supposed to take it sublingually or by injection. When I skip my b12 for several days(even at over 2 years out), I can totally notice a difference in how I feel. Once I get back on my regimen, life is much easier in the regards to my energy levels.
Plus, you are still in recovery mode and your body is probably playing "catch up" to all the changes. Rest when you can.

Not that I am aware of. The intrinsic factor is the big one for us.
You might want to read this blog (as I love her advice, knowledge etc etc) and really appreciate everything she puts into supplying solid information on vitamins, labs, nutrient/minerals for all post-ops.

Hi Vicky!
My two week (12 day) appt. is tomorrow also. One at 11:45 and the other at noon. What time are yours? I'm getting all my water and protein in but I'm really wanting to eat something. Dunno why. You are losing better than I. I'm lucky to lose one pound a day. Just hit the 20# mark since I started the two-week post op. But that was only twenty-three days ago so I guess I'm where I should be. I feel good. Got some Mederma for my incision scars.
Let me know if you'll be there around the time I'm there. We can compare notes, if you like.
Take care!
Mickey

I would say that I feel better within 1 day of getting back on my b12 regimen. Get the sublinguals. I took 2500mcg every day until my 18 month labs came back with high normal levels. We cut it down to 2500mcg every 2-3 days, and my labs returned to normal within a couple of months.
In the pregnancy, I have to take it every day again, and my numbers have stayed within normal ranges.
It might make a marked improvement if that's not the cause, but it is a vital supplement for us.

Personally, I was tired and got fatigued easily till about a month out of surgery. I got my fluids down, worked on protein, ect.... But was just tired none the less. It will take some time for your body to adjust.
I do agree with USAF, talk to your Dr. tomorrow about your vitamin intake.
Keep up the good work!
