My DH had VSG 13 days ago adn was a type II insulin dependent diabetic.  Since the surgery he has needed no insulin and his sugars run between 80-99 which is good however he is TOTALY out of it.  He is continuously dizzy and in a fog.  He looks very flushed and clumsy.  He is on full liquids and is following the eating requirements.  He went to our family doc today and had bloodwork drawn but got no suggestions or answers and he checked out fine.  Unfortunately he had to explain the VSG to him as he was unaware of it?  His experience is so diferent from mine so I have no answers.  Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

I recommend he calls the surgeon for advice.  the surgeon should be able to help with getting him connected to a doctor who can assist with assessing your husband. and/or providing care.

good luck to you both.

Could it be that his bood is not accustomed to having blood sugars being in the 80's, so even though that is "normal", it isn't "normal" for him as of yet...so he's currently experiencing hallmark signs of hypoglycemia even though, by the numbers, he is fine.

That's what we are thinking.  He is trying apple juice as we speak to up his sugar a bit.  His body is not used to sugars this low.  We have a call into the surgeon and hope to hear back tomorrow.

I had that in the hospital.  they were hardpressed to believe me because my sugar was "normal" but i was telling them...i'm sweating, dizzy, foggy.....all the signs of hypoglyciemia.  they were being really rigid and only wanted SF clear liquids...and I was like, what's the point, there zero calories, my body needs at least something.  they gave in eventually and i felt soooo much better.  it was clear that was what the issue was.

I'd check with the surgeon if not sure.

My sugar has been in those numbers. I am also diabetic. I but some candy in my mouth and it really helps.
