Picking a goal weight??
I have had all my pre-ops and they all keep asking whats my goal! How did everyone else pick? She said for my 5'7 frame I should be 140lbs, I laughed, I haven't been that weight since maybe 3rd grade... Was it hard for anyone else to pick a goal weight or even imagine themselves in a healthy range? Just trying to pick a few brains on this one, Thanks in advance!

Im 5'11 and I have a larger frame to begin with so I picked 200. I know that still puts me in the overweight category but Ill take that over super morbidly obese lol. Ideally I would like to get down to about 175-180. Its not that Im trying to just settle with a number, im just trying to be realistic with myself because I dont ever see myself being under 200lbs...im certainly going to try though =) My weight range based on having a healthy BMI is 156-179. I will never be 156 EVER because I would look disgusting so Im going with the higher end of that for my ideal!
If you google height/weight charts, you can find many different methods of determining "ideal" weights.
I just went with something that fit into the BMI healthy, normal weight, but with a number that was a little stretch beyond what I've done in my adult life. I have gotten down to 146 before, so I stretched for 140...
At 5'4", the top weight was 145. The low weight 107. I would be emaciated at 107. At 16, I was super skinny and weighed 118.
I will be happy if I land somewhere under 150, but no less than 120. I am going to try not to care too much about the number, but also take into account body fat percentage and clothes size and how I just feel overall.

Even Drs don't agree on goal weights. Its a strange area. I have only seen my surgeon once, just before and just after surgery never before that and never after that. I see his PA every couple months and he set a goal for me at 170 which when I used the BMI calculator on this site it said I would still be overweight. I talked to my gastro and he said my goal weight should be 150-160 which would put me in the normal range. I haven't weight 150 lbs since I was about 25. So my personal goal is going to be whatever is just inside the normal BMI range for me, then if I feel good at that weight I will stop, if I feel its too hard to stay there I will adjust it accordingly. I think we all have our perfect weight but most of us just don't know what it is yet.
I picked 140 - my dr said 130 - my nurse 135 - my psychologist 150. Hell who knows I might be happy at 160. It all depends on me and how I feel when I get there. All of these numbers were only a dream before this wonderful surgery. Now they are attainable. Best of luck. Do what makes you happy and no one else.
I never really did pick a goal weight, neither did my surgeon. I have a number in mind that sounds pretty good but it's not really a goal. If I hit it, great. If I don't but I'm still comfortable where I stand, awesome. It's about middle of the road for my height on a weight chart.
I'm way less concerned about the actual number and/or size than I am about how I feel/look.
