im 9 days post-op and in the last couple of days I can't seem to eat or drink anything without having to run to the restroom. Is this normal? More importantly, does it end and when?

While it wasn't my experience I hear it's common post op. What stage diet are you on? Liquids in likely means liquids out.

Malak are you drinking milk? You could have developed a lactose intolerance.

I just started the purée stage on Wednesday. That's a good point about the liquids in, liquids out. The cramps can be painful but it seems to be getting better.

I had the same problem post op, my MD told me to eat FF Greek yogurt every day and take Pepto Bismal 2x day...it cleared it right up...and I was still on a clear liquid diet...

I had that for only a few days around the same point. Nurse said it was digestive system coming back on line. I was home recovering so I lived through it.

Being home makes it not a big deal. However, I was planning on trying to go back next week (2-weeks post-op) and this is making me reconsider.

It really subsided in a few days and then became episodic. I just carry 4 prep H wipes with me everywhere I go. I used a bunch the first couple weeks back. Now they are just getting all beat up in my pocket. None of my diarrhea was explosive, so I had time to react. I was really scared about it, to the point that the surgeon and I had an argument about the type of surgery I needed. I didn't want to get sick at work. My point being he won out and I am glad I ended up with the RNY. With hindsight it was a non-issue. Just plan ahead (wipes, creams - if needed, a backup pair of underwear, if you think it will make you less stressed). You could even have a change of clothes in your car (I didn't). You probably won't need any of it, but it will give you peace of mind returning to work. Good luck with your decision.

Oh, I'm not necessarily worried about having an accident at work. I never trust a fart at this point! ? It's more the cramps that precede it - they're horrible!
