Hi there

14 days to go.  I am trying to arrange school pick up/ child care/ etc for during my hospital stay.  The Dr. yesterday at pre op said it could be 1 day or it could be 2 days.  Honestly with my husband's work schedule  2 days is better for me.  He has a team meeting that has all his upper management coming into town the day after my surgery.

Saying to my friends- i may or may not need your help but i wont know until the day i have surgery is a little unsettling.

Can you all weigh in here.

did you stay 1 night or 2 nights in the hospital. If 2- why?

Thanks.

If you are considered well enough to go home after one night your doctor will discharge you.  There is no way to predict that.  In my case insurance approved one night and then approved the second night when my surgeon requested it that day.  I would arrange for help letting them know you might not need it,  but even if you are at home you will probably not be able to drive and will probably need help with child care.

2 nights for me. It could depend on if you are an early surgery, or later in the day. Sometimes it's connected to when you can drink a certain amount, etc.

You probably won't know until the day arrives.

My surgeon keeps everyone two nights to make sure they can tolerate pureed foods before they leave the hospital. Honestly, you should just plan for two nights. Even if you get out of the hospital after one night, you will not be in any condition to pick up your children or care for them. When I got home from the hospital, it took all of my effort just to take a shower and eat some cottage cheese.

I just had my surgery on Monday and was discharged Tuesday.I was the first surgery of the day so that may have played into the decision.

All three of us who had WLS on Monday got discharged on Thursday--might be standard for this hospital or else they clumped us oldies together on purpose.  I cherished the valuable time to be in the presence of angels on earth---doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff.

I stayed 1 night. My surgery was early morning. However it depends on the surgeon and the hospital. I almost stayed a second night due to a high pulse that they could not get down.

Plan on 2 nights to be on the safe side.

good luck with your new life journey
