Thinking of donating my hair before surgery

That's a nice idea. But if you have thick hair, you probably won't have as big as a problem as you anticipate. My hair is on the thin side, and I was the only one who noticed the hair loss. I did lose hair but it really didn't have a major affect on my life. Even my hubby didn't notice. Just something to think about.

I had RNY on 4/9/2015, so I'm just about 4 months out.  I'm 49 years old and most of my life I had short hair, but now it's a little longer than shoulder length.  I never thought I was overly attached to my hair, but my hair loss is honestly, pretty darn distressing.  My hair is thick and I have a lot of it (thank goodness), but one of the things I dread right now is washing it.  I comb it out with a wide comb before I wa**** and end up with a poodle in my sink, then nice clumps come out in the shower, and when I comb it again to add product, I get another pile...oh, and then I have to vacuum the bathroom floor for all of the "runners."  Based on my ponytail width, I'm pretty sure I've lost at least a third of the volume so far and it's still dropping (kinda like my weight).  If it keeps going until my weight stabilizes, I may not have any left since I'm only 1/2 way to goal....ok, I'm exaggerating, but getting to my point.

If you are willing to donate, I think it's a wonderful cause.  I agree that you may not want to go uber-short, but mostly...do what makes you happy!

I shaved my head for St. Baldricks 6 weeks post-op and I'm so glad I did.  It removed all the concern of hair loss.  And I was able to raise $1500 for a really amazing cause.

And I love the short hair so much that I've kept it super short ever since.

Pretty hair! So generous of you to donate your hair. I am almost 8 months out and have not lost any hair. I just keep my protein levels high. Your husband probably loves your long hair. Mine sure does. Good luck with your surgery and hair.

This is a time for you to feel good about yourself and be good to yourself, so you should probably do whatever you feel is right in your heart.
