I remember before I had surgery and for quite awhile after walking up hill would cause my heart to feel like it was going to explode! I have since become an avid hiker and walk up mountains fairly often.  Yesterday I did my version of the "someday I'll do a marathon" I hiked 25 miles over 3 mountains in 10 hours!  My knees are sore but one of the things I noticed the most is ..while I was sweating and at time breathing heavy..NEVER did my heart feel like it would beat out of my chest!  My knees are a bit sore today but no other soreness.  The last 5 miles were hell and I am not sure I will ever go that far again. My favorite length is about 10 - 12 miles!

You just made me cry!  That is awesome!  We have property in the North Carolina highlands that I so desperately want to hike through.  We were jsut there this weekend and I sat there at one point looking up at the peaks envisioning that one day I'll be able to hike it.  My father in law used to climb those same mountains with his brothers to go squirrel hunting.  He said its gorgeous up there, and there are little creeks and runs after the snow melts that the animals gather at.  I so want to do that!!
