I can't find anything in my paperwork about how many calories I should be eating 4 weeks post surgery.

Thanks!

I never said it would be easy. I said it would be worth it.

I never was told calories. I have to get a min of 64 oz of fluids a day. I am to get as a female between 72-93 grams of Protein a day no more than 35-55 grams of carbohydrates and this is good carb's no "white carbs" and no more than 20-30 grams of fat. I was told to do 3 meals and 2 snacks a day and always do protein first and then if I have room I can do some veggies.

Pick lean proteins and you could stay between 500-700 calories a day.

My program calls for between 600-800 calories per day, 64 ounces of water or more, 60-80 grams of protein. I limit myself to under 50 grams of carbs (and not from bread, pasta, sugar, fruit or starchy carbs), only what I get from non-starchy veggies, Greek yogurt and my daily nonfat latte. I'm supposed to stick to this plan until I reach goal.

This is how many calories I ate/eat:

  • 1-2 Months After Surgery: I ate 500 calories a day
  • 3-6 Months After Surgery: I ate 600-700 calories a day
  • 7-9 Months After Surgery: I ate 800-900 calories a day
  • 10-12 Months After Surgery: I ate 1000 calories a day
  • 13-15 Months After Surgery: I ate 1200 calories a day to goal weight (I reached my goal weight at 15 months out)
  • Maintenance 16-30 Months After Surgery: I ate 2000-2500 calories a day
  • Maintenance: 31 Months After Surgery to Today: 1800-2000 calories a day

All of the above calories eaten were without exercise. I would not concern yourself with what calories are burned through exercise since those figures (no matter what the source) are not truly accurate. Exercise should be for the physical and mental benefits only. If interested, please see my profile page where I detail my experience with RNY.

I wasn't given direction re: calories either. The main guidelines were protein and fluids (for me, 64 oz. water and minimum 65 gm. protein).

At 4 weeks out, you are still "eating for healing" so don't worry about calories. Just follow your guidelines to the "T".

As I started eating more "regular" food I actually carried a 1/2 cup measuring cup in my purse. I didn't pull it out to measure what was on my plate, but I did indeed eyeball it when I started to eat out a bit, to be sure I wasn't over doing it. (Even did this the weekend of my son's wedding!)
