I had lots of energy before today but now have hit a wall.  So tired I can hardly walk.

Did this happen to you and how did you get by iy?

Thanks

Maybe you overdid it. It took me about six weeks to feel normal again. Just keep up with your Dr's nutrition plan and get some rest.

It comes and goes. I had a few weeks where I felt fine, and other weeks where I was really tired a lot. It's very normal.

I was EXHAUSTED the first two weeks of surgery. I stayed at home and mostly slept. The first week I was sleeping, literally, 18-20 hours a day. I was only awake long enough to drink water and have protein and meds, then trundled back to bed. The second week I was still sleeping 12 hours a day. I went back to work at 3 weeks, and while I was very happy to be back at work, MAN it hit me like a ton of bricks. The first day back I worked 9 hours, which is a fairly short day for me, and I wasn't totally sure I was going to be able to drive home afterwards. It got better from there.

So yes, this is totally normal. Give yourself a free pass and sleep as much as you can while still staying hydrated. When you're awake, be sure to do some walking, but otherwise sleep and rest. You just had major surgery in which they rerouted your digestive tract. I bet you're still on clear liquids, so even with a bit of protein, you're literally starving. Your body is in shock and trying to heal, and rest is the best way to deal with it. I also felt lightheaded during this period because of the lack of salt I was taking in. Try some salty chicken broth. If you have it, a little No Salt (a salt alternative) helps because it's a huge dose of potassium.

I had good days and days where I took 3 or more naps. Just keep sipping, getting in your protein and walking as much as you can. I think I saw a huge energy boost around weeks 5-6.

Ummmmmmm... are you SURPRISED you're tired at SIX DAYS OUT???  My dear, your body has just had a MAJOR trauma!  Did you think you'd bounce back as if nothing had happened?  If you'd sustained major abdominal injuries in a car crash would you think that six days later you'd be back to normal?

Patience grasshopper - all will be well.  Be kind to yourself.  Take the time you need.
