Vitamin Question for KELLY !!!!!
Hi Kelly, in your opinion, can Vitamin D cause constipation? ALso, should we be taking a magnesium supplement if we have to take Vitamin D supplements? I read that we must take both of them together... and I had most of the symptoms they listed of magnesium deficiency.... what do you think ? I live in an area with not enough sunshine and also take lexapro for anxiety..... I am 18 months out and constipation is my only complication from the surgery..... thanks as always for your opinion.......
Vitamin D should not cause constipation. Constipation is pretty common for RNY folks because we often don't get enough fiber in our diets since we focus on protein first (and most people rely heavily on meat for protein, which is very low in fiber).
You don't need to take magnesium with your vitamin D, no. If you think you might have a magnesium deficiency, get some labs done to find out. If you do, then take a magnesium supplement.

Do you take an iron supplement, and what kind? Iron can definitely be constipating.
