Smoking :(
First off, I know it's bad. Really bad! My surgeon didn't make me quit before the surgery. I went almost three weeks without a cigarette, then I broke down and had one. The stresses of life post op were just too much. My depression is getting worse and worse. (I'm going to my therapist tomorrow). I'm just curious to any of you who smoked after surgery...or still are smoking...have you had any adverse effects? I know ulcers are a possibility. I'm really trying to avoid smoking but sometimes I just can't help it. I used to be a pack a day smoker. Now I find myself grabbing one every other day or so. Please no lectures. I know it's bad!!!
Lexapro helps with my anxiety. Smoking is bad. I used to be a smoker..

I know it is hard, no one ever said that quitting something was easy. You just had a major break up with food and are probably feeling stressed out because of it. I was a 2 pack a day chain smoker. My family life is beyond crazy. The reason that I stopped smoking was because I literally couldn't breathe and the thought of having esophageal cancer and being on oxygen or possibly dying did it for me. My uncle just recently passed of throat cancer. Think of all the health benefits you will have when you quit. Being able to breathe, to run, to not stink like smoke, lower blood pressure and so much morel you had this surgery to improve your health and live longer life.

You need to quit smoking and you know it. I take meds for anxiety and depression the meds do help .Smoking is so expensive also.It can make you age a lot sooner than you would like.
I used to be a smoker two packs a day.I stopped and it has been twenty years. If you saved all of the money from not smoking you would be able to go on a trip some where you have been wanting to go to.
Sorry I didn't mean to lecture but I will tell you this.I got married 23 years ago and my aunt who I adored died the day before from lung cancer she was not even forty years old.So I kind of have some issues with smoking. I love when someone in my family talks about my wedding and then they say oh aunt Linda has been dead for 23 years. So my wedding day measures how long some has passed away.
You can quit it is hard but you can do it.Going to therapy is a great thing. Life always has stress. I have never met someone who doesn't have stress in their lives.Hopfully with therapy they can help you figure out different ways to handle stress.
I quit smoking a year before my surgery. In general I wanted a healthy life style, and wouldn't consider surgery until I accomplished quitting. I never started again, but my cousin started smoking about 4 months out. I see her doubled over in pain, crying, taking extra medication because of the ulcer. Comparing the 2 of us should prove smoking is after surgery will only cause you pain! Good Luck quitting :)

Ulcers are an adverse effect... so is cancer.
Not sure if you're on any meds for depression, but FWIW, Wellbutrin is an antidepressant that is also used as a prescription anti-smoking aid (but they call it Zyban when they prescribe it for that, same ingredient though). Might be worth looking into.
