Is it possible?

I just had a quick question. Is it possible to be completely complication free during surgery and post op?  Everyone doesn't have complications, right?

Nope most people don't have complications. You read about more complications because people who are unhappy, or worried post more than those who are issue free. Most won't post "Hey I'm great!" The only "complication" if you want to call it that was figuring out how to eat after surgery, and I did lose my gall bladder at 9 mo out but that would of happened most likely whether I lost weight with or without surgery.

I'm only almost 2 months out and I have had best case scenario so far...just like the above comment I only have issues with learning to eat...lol.  I honestly think complications are more closely related to age...I seem to hear about more complications with older patients...I am 34...so I think that has helped with my success.

I haven't had any complications.  I'm 10.5 months out and knock on wood, it's been smooth sailing.

Don't forget, folks who are having problems are a heck of a lot more likely to post than people who have nothing else to say than, "I'm all good!"  The vast majority of people (from what I can tell) do well, as long as they follow their doctor's program.

I am 47, had my appendix rupture on 8/5 and rny on 9/12.  Had more issues with the appendix than the rny.  Only thing I had a problem with is learning to slow down while eating.  Foamies are not fun.  Good Luck!!

I'll be 50 yrs old this year, had surgery 2 months ago, and besides some pain that should be expected by everyone, it passed quick and I have been complication free.  The only challenge I had was eating more slowly, but besides that it's been a lot easier than the prep for surgery.  I feel for the people who had complications - very tough to manage with all the changes going on with your body.  I think if you follow your doctor's instructions, you should be fine.

This is a great question you asked as someone who is having surgery in 4 days I have been wondering the same thing quite a bit.

Almost a year and a half post op and no complications for me either. Just normal challenges with food and retraining my brain!  All my medical problems are resolved too.  Hit lowest weight in a year.  Holding steady for 6 months :)

I think you will read a lot more about complications because people want to get answers and advice.  People don't typically post about everything being perfect - that would be boring.  I had to have my gall bladder out and have had an ulcer, both of which were very minor and managable.  Totally worth the surgery compared to the inevitable complications I would have from being morbidly obese.
