What does your nutrition plan say?
I have popcorn at the movies, with nothing on it.
Stay away from cereal. It's a nutrition nightmare. More people get into trouble by eating foods like cereal.

I will just say that my nutritionist has said the exact same thing about cereal. I asked about Grape Nuts...which I figured was surely healthy and she just reiterated that there is NOTHING good from cereal and to stay away. Always.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
Well, cereal is a grain. So he says you can eat it but in limited amounts. Look for one low in sugar.

Any whole grain cereal that is low in sugar and low in fat should be fine. Something like Kashi GOLEAN or shredded wheat (not frosted) would be fine. Nothing wrong with oatmeal either. You'll generally want to go easy on the milk so you don't run afoul of the drinking-while-eating rule.
You might personally find that you dump on cereal which is just a fact of life for some people. But from a nutritional perspective there's certainly room in our lives for high-quality cereals if desired. No Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Cocoa Puffs, though. :)
I'm 9 months out. I don't eat cereal or popcorn. I haven't tried to eat them.
I've read on other posts here ( used search function, typed in "cereal" ) that for us still in the losing phase, cereal isn't a great choice for us since most brands do not provide a good amount of protein.

My NUT was weary of answering this same question for me when I asked. She advised me to avoid it but said if I was determined to have it to use very little 1% or skim milk - just enough to moisten the cereal - and the only cereal she thought might be okay is the Kashi golean. Well... I never did try it and I don't think I will. I use to be obsessed with cereal, it was always my go to breakfast and snack before surgery. I just think it would kick in an old habit that doesn't appear to be productive for me :( Oh well. I'll survive without my cereal :) Good luck to you!
