Update- been a while

I haven't posted here in a while and thought I would do an update on myself for anyone who cares to read it. I still am extremely sick and have turned incredibly depressed. I have to keep going in and out of the hospital and being admitted which is no fun. I throw up everything and have no appetite.

I started at 316 and now I'm 209. Actually cried yesterday because I noticed a little bit of loose skin on my tummy. I knew that going into this loose skin is a huge possibility but I had this plan that I was going to be in the gym working hard, but that hasn't happened bc of my constant illness. I can barely make it up the stairs without almost passing out.

To top it all off my job laid me off temporarily because of how sick I am and unable to work so I got put on disability until April 1. Idk if I will be strong enough for school either.

And the hair loss.... So so frustrating and makes me feel sad and incredibly insecure. This has been the hardest 5.5 months ever.

Sorry for long post.

Are you sick from the surgery or do you have some other health issues going on? And if you are sick from the surgery, what is the prognosis? This sounds really awful for you.

And FWIW, losing over 100 lbs, it is likely no matter what you did in the gym you were going to have loose skin. Sure, you could have toned up the muscles underneath, but there is no such thing as tightening skin via exercise, so hopefully that will alow you to stop reflecting on that negatively and focus your energies in a healing way for yourself.

Hugs to you!

Hey long time no talk. How you been?

I am just sick from surgery. No one can figure out what is wrong with me. They keep telling me wait till 6 months and I will be fine so I hope that's the case.

Thanks that does make me feel a bit better. It's just going to suck going under the knife for skin removal surgery. Looks and sounds so painful :\

Spend some time on the PS forums. One thing I learned from those ladies (and wow--do they ever get into some graphic detail!) is that a 'regular' skin removal is not all that painful. The pain seems to come from the tummy tuck procedure where they actually cinch in your muscle. I am certainly talking in primary terms here, what I know about PS fills a thimble at best, but I have taken great comfort in so many having shared the difference between the two types of belly skin procedures.

Also, the arms appear to be able to have either an injection/tightening procedure or a brachioplasty. The feedback on the brachioplasty has been REALLY all over from what I have read. Some said it was hugely painful and difficult, other people have been like "eh, no big deal' so I think whe I get to goal and can have a very direct conversation with the PS I am considering here, I'll decide what to do then. My belly and boobs will be first...though 3 months ago you'd have gotten a different answer of what would be first...so what do I know? :)

I am doing pretty well, I certainly have nothing to complain about in the health department with all you are going through! Bless you for keeping up the good fight and getting through all this! You really inspire me because I have not had to battle any of the things you have and yet you continue on your path. If I get feeling lazy about anything, I think of you and I get to it!

HUGS HUGS HUGS!

I had no complications... but have both hair loss and a ton of skin -- so you probably would have had that any way.  Try to focus on the positive and press on.  I surely hope things get better for you!!!!!  Bright side-- the hair grows back AND the skin can be cut off!!!

I don't think I would accept no dx at this point.   This is NOT normal, so why are they just leaving you like this?   There should be either a physiological or psychological reason for this amount of sickness and neither should be left untreated ...   I'm not sure I understand why they think you will be "cured" at 6 months?

I am concerned that you cried about some loose skin ...  and that you had an expectation that this wouldn't happen to you, as well as the hair loss situation.

Do you have a therapist?  Are you seeing someone to discuss these?

Sending lots of encouragement your way. I'm thinking you need to push your dr and pcp for some further investigation and also a referral to talk to a counselor-not just about

the weight/skin but everything you've had to deal with over the past months. Best and hoping things get turned around!

Thanks for updating us. Have you consulted with another surgeon?  I'm concerned your doctor continues to say wait 6 months and things will change. Five months or six isn't going to make a difference, something isn't right and they need to figure out what. I would be pushing for exploratory surgery if you don't have a stricture there's something else going on that's not typical at all.

I also recommend you talk to someone about the depression (understandable you've been through a lot) and the skin issues. The skin issues aren't going to get better as you lose more so be prepared emotionally to accept this fact.
