How much is normal?
I've read a few ppl on here that have lost 75 lbs or more in just 3 months! That is amazing and congrats to you guys! I am 12 weeks out as well, and have only lost 40 lbs. I had lost 20 or so before surgery, so total is about 60, but that is measuring from one whole year ago. (I will update my ticker) I realize I should be happy with this amount, but I have a mind problem where I only see how much more I have to go. No matter how much I lose, I see the same obese person in the mirror!
Also, I'm experiencing hair loss. What a bummer... I need a new style to help hide it, but am really afraid to cut my hair short- it is very fine and now thinning. Very flat - no volume and I (feel like) I have a large head so am worried that if I cut it short it will look really weird! Any suggestions?
I think it's rare to lose 75 lbs in three months. I think only those with a LOT of weight to lose would lose that much that fast. People tend to average about half their excess weight by six months out. I needed to lose about 130 lbs and it took me about six months to lose 75 lbs. But if someone weighed over 400 lbs and need to lose more than 200 lbs, well then they probably would lose 75 lbs in three months. That doesn't mean they are likely to get to goal any sooner than someone with less to lose, though.

Also....I am with you on the hair loss....OMG....so much hair, lol. I used to wear it "fluffed" up in a big clip, but now I can't. It's hard to style the FOUR strands of hair I have left, lol

Those ranges seem really low to me. I was 289 the day of my surgery and lost 100 lbs by Dec 9. That was right before my 7 month anniversary. And many of the people around my surgery time seem awfully close. Those seem like 'easy' goals to achieve, but really low for reality if you are sticking to plan and working at your loss through exercise.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
Our surgery dates are very close. I had mine on Nov. 5th. My surgery weight was 262 and today was 221. So not only are we very close on how many days out, but we are very close in surgery weight loss. It does get discouraging sometimes when you see a post of someone who has lost 75 pounds in a few short months; however, remember this is not a race. We all have our own separate journey, and when it gets discouraging remember how far you have come. Also try to remember when looking at tickers, some people like myself put it at their heavy weight which is not necessarily their surgery weight. I too see the obese person when I look in the mirror. For some reason I can see my weight loss easier when I have clothes on. It's really weird.
Then, coming to the hair loss subject, don't even get me started. I have been thinking of cutting my hair, but am having trouble doing it. I have always had long hair to cover up a very round fat face. If I cut it I will simply be a fat face.
Tomorrow is 11 months since my surgery & I am down 95 lbs (started at 230) .
Here is what I lost each month
1 month - 29.6
2 mos - 39.8
3 mos - 53.2
4 mos - 61.6
5 mos - 69
6 mos - 75.2
7 mos - 82.4
8 mos - 89
9 mos - stall no change
10 mos - 92
11 mos - 95
Since then I have been fluctuating between 90 & 95 lb loss. I usually gain around when I get close to getting my period.
Please remember everyone's weight loss varies
you cant measure by others success because the only normal is what you can do. I lost 38 lbs preop over a 3 month period then for the next 3 months post op I lost 16 lbs per month. It all depends on starting weights, exercise patterns and commitment levels. EVERYONE is different. Stay true to your plan and it will come off! My starting weight was 326, surgery weight was 288.
Best to you
