Arthritis

I am a little over a month out and having severe pain from my arthritis. I am still taken the liquid vicodin from the surgeon but even that doesn't help. Before surgery I was religous about my meloxicam/Mobic and now that I can't take it I am in horrible pain. I live in MI so the weather doesn't help my issues any but I need to find relief soon. I have it in my knees and feet and that limits my workout time because I start having pain that causes tears. Can anyone help?

Jamie, I've had really good results taking 60 mg a day of Cymbalta. It also helps with the depression from chronic pain.

I'm living on my heating pad right now because of my arthritis.  For some reason the moist heat helps.  In addition to Vicodin I use flexoral (sp?).  It really seems to help

For now, I would try alternating heat and ice on your knees and feet.  That should make it feel a little better.

Monday, call your doctor.  Whoever has been treating you for the arthritis.  Some things you might be able to try are oral steroids for a short period of time and/or steroid injections.

I have inflammatory arthritis and it has kicked up a bit in the past couple of weeks. I made an appt with my Rheum to discuss what can be done to help with the pain. I don't want to quit working out, but I have scaled back a bit until I can get in to see her.

Maybe your Dr can help.

Thanks everyone, I have an appointment with my pcp on the 22nd and I will see if she will do steroids or send me to a specialist for it so maybe I can get some relief. I have lost 24 pounds in a month and three days and continue to workout but only like 20 minutes at a time and spread out throughout the day for sure.

Kelly as I was looking online I remembered you saying to rotate heat and ice for my feet and knee. I think I found something that may help lesson the pain in my feet until we can get something more solid into place. They are called therapeutic snuggle boots and you can put them in the microwave to warm them or the freezer to chill them and they last for hours. Thank you so much I am going to order me a pair for after my workouts when it gets really bad

Oh those sound awesome!  My feet don't hurt but I've love something like that for my elbows or knees.

I was taking meloxicam for years prior to surgery.  My Pcp prescribed voltaren gel before the surgery and I am still allowed to use it because it is a gel and goes directly on my knees. I have not had to use it much because my pain has significantly decreased with the weight loss. You may want to ask your doctor if that would be an option for you. Good luck!

NSAIDS are systemic, though.   They still have the same effect regardless of how you take/use them.
