Post RNY Carb limit
I read an article this week (it was recent but I've look in my email trash and can't find it) that said at 1 year post RNY we should keep carbs per day to 90-130 grams & protein to 60-120 gm per day.
I do fine on the protein, but started a daily food diary to check carbs - HOLY COW - I'm eating too many carbs!! I'm trying to stay at 90-100 grams carbs per day - for a week - and it is difficult. Some organic soups have 30 gm carbs per serving. I thought about making some gluten free lemon scones and they have 60gm carbs per scone!! I'm getting my eyes opened!!!
I'm almost 5 years post RNY and I guess I've grown lax about looking at carbs.
Hope this may help anyone else over a year out that is not keeping a food diary and maybe "off the mark" like me. Keeping a food diary is really "eye opening".

I know some people think it's really important to keep the carbs low. I have never counted carbs, but I imagine I get a lot of them because I rely heavily on beans and dairy products for my protein since I don't eat meat. I don't believe I need to limit those carbs, though. I do limit the starchy carbs and I limit sugar.

You need to keep in mind though, that not all carbs are equal - the carbs from legumes, dairy, and vegetables have health value - unlke the ones that were in those scones!!!!
I try to keep the "white" carbs limited (bread/cake/pasta/rice) etc and don't worry too much about the others. I also don't eat much fruit because it's not enough bang for my carb buc****ep it down to 1-2 pieces a week, if I can

As others said - not all carbs are the same. I never count carbs in green leafy veggies, I can't eat enough of them.. I do watch starchy carbs, fruits, dairy carbs (I dump on them) .
Some canned - RTE soups have thickeners (flour, starches etc. ) and that brings the carbs up. If I ever eat canned soups - I try to pick that as low carbs as they have plus I also may remove most of potatoes or noodles and add more meat and veggies...
Also - the carbs should only concern you if you gaining weight, or want to lose more and can't... If you are active and happy where you are - weight wise - I would not change a thing...

Maintaining is much easier for me when I limit my carbs. When I eat too many it makes me crave more.
I do keep my carbs around 90-130 grams per day so it's good to hear that that is what is recommended.

Thanks everyone. I thought I was doing OK with carbs. I stay away from "white" foods and junk food. I agree carbs should come from veggies, fruit, nuts, legumes, etc. I have put on about 5 pounds since a back injury last April and was inactive and on steroids for months. I'm at my goal weight but would like to take those 5 pounds off.
I guess since counting carbs I realize how quickly they add up with a couple crackers, starchy root veggies, sugar, beans and legumes, chocolate, etc. I was adding a little honey to hot tea and have switched back to stevia.
Thanks for your advice and comments. I've been away from OH boards for awhile and need to be stop by more often.
