Abdominal Abscess

Update: so in my previous post, I thought my vomiting was just from eggs. It continued for a couple of days so I went to the ER. A cat scan showed an abdominal abscess. I was in the hospital three days and finally stopped throwing up today. The doc said they usually use a drain for it but mine is to close to a major artery, so I am on antibiotics. Has anyone else had a abdominal abscess?

Yikes, they sent you home on antibiotics? I'm not a nurse or medical at all but an abscess like that to me should require hospitalization with IV antibiotics.

Hope it heals quickly.

I had an sever abdominal abscess in March from an open hysterectomy. They were able to drain it vaginally. I was in the hospital for 5 days with a ****tail of antibiotics. Then sent home with 10 days worth. the drain came out a week after I was home. I found it more draining than when I had my RNY. I was of work for a month with little or no energy for at least 3 weeks.

Good luck but make sure you follow-up with this

I had one after my first c section. So painful, I'm sorry. I was in the hospital for 7 days and the drain was taken out before I left. I was on IV antibiotics during my hospital stay and then oral for 10 days following. I felt better immediately after surgery to clean it out, though.

I agree with cajungirl.

After a prostate biopsy they thought I had a UTI. I was sent home on antibiotic pills. I got sepsis went into convulsions and almost croaked plus my kidneys were shutting down. They finally put me in the hospital on IVs. They grew a culture and determined the best antibiotics which took a couple of days.

Had 2 different ones after my RNY and they caused no end of trouble until they found the correct antibiotics. Once they get you on the right meds it should heal fairly quickly.

Hope things get better for you and you don't become a "rubber-band" patient like I was.
