Work and RNY

Hi everyone! I have been lurking and responding a little here and there as I am just beginning my own journey. I have my very first consult in about a week with my surgeon Dr. Papasavas. I am super excited!!

Anyway, I have a demanding job. I want to make sure I don't poorly plan the timing of my surgery with the demands of my job. Starting in January, I work 6-7 days a week about 12-15 hours each day at a desk job. It is draining and I hardly have time for sleeping. Soooo - would it be a bad idea to schedule surgery for late December and only have about 3 weeks off after before I start this busy schedule? If I don't have it then I would need to pu**** until March or so after this busy time period. I just want thoughts...I know everyone is different.

Thanks!

Good question. My revision surgery is Aug 13 and I am only taking 1 week off, but I work from home at a desk job when I am not traveling. My first business trip will be 1 month post op, so hoping to hear back from working vets, too.

I would wait. Even if everything goes wonderfully, you will probably tire easily for a month or two. Also, you want to make sure you have time to walk and initiate an exercise program and it sounds like during tax season, that will be a challenge.

I took 2 weeks off, wish I had taken 3. I was exhausted with a regular 40 hour wee****il about 5-6 weeks out.

I had a desk job and went back to work at 2 weeks. I did experience some fatigue between weeks 3-8. It didn't require any special arrangements just went to bed earlier than normal. The long hrs may cause you problems or may not.

The only suggestion I'll make is be sure your insurance plan will still pay for WLS next year. Sometimes companies change plans to save money.

GREAT suggestion! That happened to me and it took a decade before I had insurance that would cover WLS again.

Also expect the best but have plan B in place. I expected to be off 2 weeks and needed a full month. And the second month I could only do part-time.

Good luck!

I work at a CPA firm as I think you do as well. I pretty much was ready for busy season. I was a little tired the first 2 weeks back, but it was doable. Be mindful of all the follow up appointments you have to have. It's tough to get away that time of year.

I went back to work, 50+ hours a week as a systems analyst, three weeks after surgery.  I was working 6 days a week at the time and had no issue.  As an accountant you probably have very limited physical activity, so it should be fine.

I took two weeks off and could have gone back in one. I had no issues with energy at two weeks, but that was working 8 hours, then the gym, a much shorter day than you will be having.
