Hey all,

I'm working on 14 months out.  It has been so stinking hot that I haven't worked out in a few weeks. This has caused me to gain 3lbs and it's sort of freaking me out.  Pools are not an option because I live in the country and there isn't any around.  I'm too embarrassed to go to the lake and work out so that leaves me with the gym.  I know at this point diet alone probably won't continue the weight loss, am I wrong?  I've been under alot of stress lately dealing with an adoption and a divorce simultaneously so perhaps the weight gain goes along with that.  Anyhow any suggestion or thoughts are welcome, maybe I should go back to tracking what I eat...

for all you vets, what should my intake be for calories, fat, and carbs at this point?

I bought an elliptical so weather was never an excuse! Give a home machine a try!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

I've never exercised much.  I walk the dog and that's about it, and he needs to be walked whether it's hot or not.  I just walk early in the morning and in the evening when it's cooler.

Is your gym not airconditioned?  I'd be VERY surprised if it wasn't.

I have no excuses for not exercising - heat, cold, rain, snow - I'm out doing something ...

Exercise is important for fitness, but diet is still the biggest issue for weight loss. You can lose weight by diet alone. If you have gained a little during stressful times, your eating has probably crept up a bit.

Sweating it off.  Had weight loss surgery too but it's a minor factor.  It pales in comparison to how much I sweat off in this heat.

I've not stopped tracking food since 3 months postop and I'm now sitting at 27 months postop! So, yeah, I recommend tracking food intake. For fitness, I'm currently training for my first full marathon (yes, the whole 26.2 miles!) so heat doesn't get to be an excuse for not running. Me & a buddy ran yesterday for 5 miles in the middle of a heat advisory - sweltering, but you can always hydrate before/during/after.

For the stress issue, if it sends you running to the pantry, work on the behavioral stuff that can help you avoid harming yourself and putting your weight loss in jeopardy. When you know stressful things are coming down the pike, increase your self-care: emotional, physical, spiritual, social things you do to make yourself feel good & cared for! And never feel too proud to say you need help - counseling isn't just for the clinically insane, it's for anyone who needs an ear and some support!

In year 4, I don't track every day, but if I creep up a bit I go right back to journaling my food.  As far as exercise goes, I have no excuses.  Period.  I'm like the postman.........rain, sleet, snow, heat-it doesn't matter.  Exercise is a priority in my life-therefore it continues regardless of the weather, travel, etc..........I just do it.

Exercise is a very important component for overall good health and weight maintenance.  You CAN maintain weight loss with little to no exercise, but you must be very diligent about what goes into your mouth. FOR LIFE.
