Hypoglycemia - Confused about my blood sugar

Merry Christmas everybody!

I am perplexed by my blood sugar! Just when I think I've learned what food combinations work best to stabilize my blood sugar, I'll get a "lowish" blood sugar reading for seemingly no reason! Today when I woke up my BS was 76, which is good for me. I had my usual protein shake, and then a little while later had my first small meal - two pieces of string cheese and a serving of wheat crackers, which normally sustains my BS very well until my next meal three hours later. However, today I went out and ran a couple errands after eating and began to feel shaky about 2 1/2 hours after eating. When I got home, my BS was 65! I don't get it. When I ate string cheese and wheat crackers in the past few days, my blood sugar was fine. I don't understand. Could stress have made my BS go down to 65? I was upset because my friend got sick and couldn't come over for Christmas, and we had to go to his house and check on him and bring him food and go to different stores. Now I am feeling so anxious about this. Why would the same food sustain me on one day but not sustain me another day? Thank you in advance.

My only experience with blood sugar issues was gestational diabetes but doesn't increased activitiy play a role in blood sugar levels? I seem to remember having to make sure I ate appropriately before and after working out. So perhaps your running around this morning affected your blood sugar differently than the other days when you ate the same thing? Just a thought...hopefully other vets more educated on the topic will answer soon... :)

the only thing i have figured out within the past year with mine is to keep glucose tablets with me at all times. mine has no rhyme or reason to it.

Your blood sugar is affected by so many different things.  Stress can affect it.  Activity will make it drop.  If you are sick and have an infection...it will be affected.  Always make sure to carry some kind of snack for just in case. :)

Thanks for your input! I thought stress would make blood sugar go up, not down. I have a lot to learn!

Thanks everybody! My levels have been better since that incident earlier today. Just still feeling a bit shaky because of anxiety.... And because my hubby is now annoyed with me freaking out and driving him crazy on Christmas.

A blood sugar of 65 isn't a REALLY low reading. So many things can cause a variation of a small amount. Stress, exercise or even the amount of water you drink can make a difference. I don't feel symptoms until I get to around 60.

I'm really happy that I haven't had a low in months now with the medication that I am taking to deal with RH!

no its not. But when your body goes from 120 to 65 quickly, it makes you feel like crap. Its just as bad as going quickly from 65 to 200 for me. I am hypoglycemic and my daughter is diabetic. The lowest I have seen her at was 35. She should have passed out but didnt, but she was not there mentally either. It was fun trying to get her to drink some juice, omg, lol. That was a struggle. Anyways, 65 can still make you feel bad even if its not as low as 50. Our doctors said to try and stay between 80 and 120, and my research online fall around that too.

Thanks Multimom! I feel "off" when I get near 70 but in the 60s I am shaky and getting a little spacy. I didn't know that fluid intake could affect our blood sugar! Thanks for that info.

Can I give you a little suggestion?  Try to avoid the wheat crackers.  Too many carbs and for me refined carbs turn right into sugar. I will eat gluten free things but things with wheat seem to cause issues for me.
