Post-Op 4 days/Pouch
I am having trouble getting fluids and protein down. I am so afraid of having a dumping issue. I am sipping all the time, water and protein shake but have not been able to get a full shake down. I did manage to get 7oz of Unjury chicken soup down but I sipped it for 4 hrs. I am so fearful of the dumping syndrome and how much my pouch can hold. Any suggestions?
You won't dump on water or Unjury. You would need something with a lot of sugar or fat to dump. Unjury is sugar free, isn't it? Just stick to a protein shake with five or less grams of sugar. You won't dump.
As far as how much your pouch can hold, your pouch is shaped sorta like a funnel. There is a small opening at the bottom called the stoma, where the pouch connects to the small intestine. Liquids run right through. So while your pouch itself could only hold a few ounces of liquid, the liquid won't stay in your pouch more than a few minutes, so there is no limit to how much you can drink.

If you are taking 4 hours to get in only 7 ounces of fluid in, how many ounces of liquids are you getting in per day? Unless you are able to drink water more quickly than the protein soup, you are not getting nearly enough.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I am not getting nearly enough you are right! I am sipping every 30 minutes, I know that is to long in between sips right?
You need to concentrate on fluids at this point - sip sip sip whatever you are able ... People go to the ER because of dehydration not a lack of protein!!!!
Sipping every 30 minutes is not sufficient = you need to step it up!
You will NOT dump unless you ingest undigested sugars - normal sugar free fluids will not make you dump (BTW - only 30% of us dump anyway so your fears are unfounded for the most part)

I am having trouble getting all of my liquids in too. But I am able to tolerate water with no issue. And sometimes I forget to sip and take a big drink and then I get worried that it will come back up or make me sick but nothing has happened. I drink an 8 oz protein shake for breakfast and another for dinner. In between those two meals is water, water, water and today was 1/2 cup of cream of celery soup (minus the celery chunks) and it went down fine. My concern is that I am too tired and have no energy to get in my 64 oz of fluids every day. My doctor said as long as I was progressing every day then I would get there.
