Hair Regrowth - I look like a Troll doll.

I have seen plenty of articles about hair LOSS throughout this process, but I can't find any about the regrowth issue.

My hair was falling out by handfuls but it started out thick enough that it wasn't really an issue. (I know, some of you hate me for this. Sorry!) I was very grateful for this.

However, now it has started coming back in and I am noticing A LOT of short hairs on my head. They stick up all over my part, and I try to weigh them down with some pomades or waxes. I now kind of have bangs (involuntarily).. it's just because I have so much short (1-2 inch) hair at the front hairline. (I hate bangs on me so I keep just trying to sweep them to the side and hide them.)

I had been growing my hair out and it is now past my shoulders. Am I going to end up having to cut it to let the new growth catch up? I don't mind having short hair, but I had short hair for several years before finally letting it grow out.

Anybody else have this particular issue and can maybe offer some advice?

Many women get a shorter cut on their hair as the hair grows back. It helps it blend in easier than long flowing hair.  It may not be what you want to hear, but it's a possiblity.  You can try wigs or weaves, but that option is not typical of most post ops choose.  Your hair will NOT be short for years, but a few weeks/months. Hair falls out faster than it grows. From what I've hear, hair usually grows back about 1/4 inch per month, possibly a little faster for some women.  Hair begins growing again as soon as it falls out. BTW, my surgeon's nurse said that the normal human head loses something like 140 hairs per day.  DAVE

I'm not there yet...but I just know I'll lose hair too.  Like you, mine is thick so I"m hoping it won't be a huge issue.

I would think that a really good hairdresser could layer your hair in a nice style and then you can let it grow out again.

My hair was doing the same thing for a while there. It has calmed down alot since then. Just give it time. It won't take a whole lot of growth before it gets more manageable.

I have chest length hair - leave the sprouts - they eventually just combine with the rest of your hair and you don't notice the difference.  Leave well alone -unless you want to cut your hair short!

i am having the same problem. However my current regrowth was from Dec Jan Feb illness. Funny thought about the troll doll so true thats what it looks like. haha! Just started losing more hair just over 11 weeks out. I really don't wan to cut either. I am thinking maybe by next year this time it will be blending in. I can only hope. Thanks for asking the question. Looking forward to replies.

I started letting mine grow out for this reason. I am losing mine too...everyday I have to clean out the tub drain.  It's pretty scary and getting thinner it seems like.  I also wanted to be able to pull it back into a pony tail for exercise so I'm able to do that....just freaking out that sometimes when swimming and it gets all clumped together, I see scalp really easily!  Hope someone posts something helpful but I've heard just have to deal with it.  :(

Hang in there!!

You do not have to cut your hair. I didn't. I also dealt with short sprouts and it is a bit more work, but very doable. When I was done styling my hair, I sprayed hair spray and slicked it down a bit with a comb. Also, I'm not sure if you have John Frieda products in the US, but here in Canada we have a product that comes in a mascara type tube that is meant for fly aways...can you say lifesaver? One day you will notice that your short hairs have turned a corner and before you know it you will have your full head of hair back!

I like the "troll doll" idea... until now I was referring to it as my brillo pad, but now I think I will change my nomenclature....

The real problem for me is the shorter my hair is, the curlier it is... so the tiny little curly new growth is making my old hair look puffy.
