1yr 8 months out. Need help!
I try and use water as a way to curb my appetite. It fills me up quick and gets my mind off food/hunger.
Eat more veggies or fresh fruit.
One thing Nik wrote on here recently that really rang true for me: The differnce between obese people and normal weight people is that for normal people hunger is not an emergency.
- These are the rules I followed/follow:
- *Drink 64 ounces Liquids daily (drink up to a meal, wait 60 minutes after a meal) (I add 2 packets sugar free drink mix and 1 teaspoon Benefiber to 2-32 ounce water containers)
- *Must eat at least 60 grams of Protein a day (80 or more grams beginning at 1200 calories a day)
- *Eat dairy products that are no fat/low fat
- *Eat simple (fruit) and complex (vegetables, whole grains) Carbohydrates (I do not count daily grams)
- *No more than 15 grams of Sugar per meal (more grams if able to tolerate-I allow myself up to 30 grams Sugar per meal from Simple and Complex Carbohydrate sources and also from Dairy products that are no fat/low fat because I do not seem to dump on Sugar)
- *Eat 3 main meals (B, L, D) no further than 5-6 hours apart
- *Eat 1 protein snack at 1200 calories a day at least 2-3 hours from breakfast
- *Eat 2-3 protein snacks at Maintenance calories a day at least 2-3 hours from B, L, D
- *12-24 Months After Surgery: eat 1200 calories a day (I ate 1200 calories a day until 15 months when I reached my goal weight)
- *24 Months after surgery (or when goal weight is reached before 24 months): Maintenance calories (BMR/RMR & Activity Level) (Malabsorption of calories lasts approximately 18-24 months) (I eat 1700-1800 calories a day to maintain my weight loss of 200 pounds at a weight of 131 pounds. My height is 5'4")
- * I do not participate in a formal exercise program due to Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis. I do move around a lot more and do a lot more walking.
What I have found works for me is limit my simple/processed carbs as much as possible> If I stick to lean meat, beans, yogurt, vegetables and fruit, I don't fight hunger. If I add bread, pasta, etc. white carbs, my hunger is increased. I try to follow low glycemic. I have also learned the longer I go without drinking prior to a main meal the greater my restriction. Also drink as much water as possible throughout the day. It is a balancing act.

Your body may think it is done. Do you track your food? If not, try myfitnesspal or a similar website. Limit carbs to those found in fruits, veggies, and yogurt. What type and how much exercise are you doing? Weight training builds muscle whi*****reases metabolism.

At just over a year out and about 15 pounds to my goal I too an experiencing this. Some days I am just ravenous. I have this pact with myself that I will drink at least 16 oz of fluids and wait 20 minutes before I eat something if it isn't time for a meal. I also find that a warm beverage, such as a sugar free decaf flavored coffee, helps even more. Like at the end of my day when I am nearly out of calories - I have a vanilla decaf coffee and it tides me over until morning. With summer being here that is a little more difficult because it is a hot beverage.
If I feel like I simply MUST eat something or if my blood sugar tanks, I try some of what is mentioned above. One of my favorites is a half cup of plain Greek yogurt. Not as good as the flavored sweetened stuff but it is filling, has protein and in carb gentle.
