Has anyone had any issues with developing new alergies with this surgery? For example im about 4 1/2 months out and i have started having issues with my throat feeling like its closing like on a daily basis ive been taking benadryl it kinda helps then i got a prescription alergie med. I have never hadd a food alergie in my life and yesterday i had a peanutbutter quest protine bar and my tongue started to swell and throat started to close so i took two benadryl and it helped. Has anyone else had issues like these?

I forgot to add every time i have gone to the hospital during the bad ones they take my O2 lvls and my oxegen has always been between 98-100 so its not really causing breathing problems so much as just making it feel like my throat is closing.

If you say your tongue swelled and you had trouble breathing - you need to go see an allergy doc.  Anaphylaxis will kill you very quickly and an allergy to nuts (and other things) can get very dangerous, very quickly ...

You may find you need to carry an epi pen in case you encounter an allergen and start to react - you should also get yourself a MedicAlert bracelet outlining your allergies - so you can get the right treatment as soon as possible in an emergency!

I doubt this has anything to do with your RNY btw ...

Anything is possible. Food allergy can develop anytime - for any reason.
I developed Splenda allergy after RNY - not sure if that was because I already had that but never used it is such qty.  I also noticed that there are foods that I do not tolerate right now.

It may be anything - the nuts, or any other components they use in making the food.
Keep journal - and write down what you ate and how much, and the symptoms you are having.

Maybe you need to see allergy doc? In a meantime - I would not eat food that caused the problems.

I moved to NC from VA and NJ and I am sure in VA and NJ I was biten by spiders. Well here in NC I have had 3 bites and had allergic reactions. They always yell at me in urgent care we told you to call the ambulance. They said each reaction will get stronger so my Dr gave me epi pens and they said take the shot and call a ambulance next time. I suggest that you work with a Dr to find out what you are allergic to because if you keep doing it and it gets worse you might find it will kick in quick and your breathing stats won't be so good.
Good luck!
