Sorry if this is TMI but I gotta ask...I had the Mirena IUD inserted last September 2010. It took 5 months for my periods to be gone completely. I have been loving that aspect of it. I had my surgery on January 10, 2012 and I have lost 33 lbs (weighed last Tues) from Boxing Day. I haven't had a period (other than light spotting once in a while on TP, sorry TMI) and tonight I get a full blown visitor!!

Anyone else experience rapid weight loss and a change in their cycle while on the Mirena IUD? Sorry for TMI.

My surgery is this Thursday the 9th and I have learned preop from my nutrition classes, the bariatric nurse, and the surgeon's office that I will be on coumadin postop for about 3 weeks.  Coumadin (as you probably know) is a blood thinner to help prevent blood clots.  Are you on a blood thinner?  Sometimes I wonder if that and/or the stress of the surgery kicks up a monthly visitor even when not so common because of an IUD or something.  An OBGYN would be good to ask...
Hope all figures out for you!

Cool a buddy in NC on the 9th!  Are you on a special preop diet?  I am on a 10 day liquid protein diet....can have some fruit and veggies each day as well.  On the 8th it is all clear liquids and mag citrate...  We are in Pennsylvania.  Good Luck!

I only had Fragmin twice in hospital and am not on it now. I didn't have to take it postop as my surgeon didn't believe in giving it postop except in hospital...

I got my Mirena postop & haven't had too much period problems with it - very minor spotting after the first month. However, I was on Seasonale bcp from preop to about 6 months postop and Auntie Flo was not nice to me during that time..... It's a normal expectation to get major changes in cycles, especially for those used to not having periods due to obesity. The extra estrogen being dumped from fat cells also recks havoc with moods for a bit. But both will eventually stabilize, once your body figures out what's going on.

I have had Mirena for a little over 5 years, going for a switch out next month.   I started for the first time in  MONTHS the day after surgery.   Antibiotics will start TOM after IUD quicker than anything.  I have been normal and regular since September.   Hoping they will go away again soon!!!!
