What questions to ask at my initial consult??

 Hi everyone! I have my initial consult appt this week and I'd like to know which questions you guys think I should ask which you find important. No insurance questions, unfortunately my insurance does not pay for WLS (if you can believe that!?!?)

I think that's hard to say.  I would say that you should understand the
surgery, what the surgeon will do, how the surgery will modify your
anatomy, and how those changes will affect the food you eat, the
amounts you eat, and how it will help you lose weight.  I would then
ask any and all questions until you have a good understanding of
those things.  You will also want to know what to expect for support,
what vitamins you will take and how many etc., and how often you
should get labs and see the nutritionist.  So, your questions may not
be the questions I would ask......but should be based on what you need
to know to understand the surgery, what is going to happen, and what
to expect afterward.  Good luck!

Did you attend a seminar? My program required a 2.5 hour seminar and most of my questions were answered in that.

Find out your surgeons track record --- how many surgeries? Deaths??

What kind of follow ups will you have? How often? Do you have a dietician etc. Aftercare is KEY

Here are a few you can ask. I asked these for my TT but they pretty much apply to this to.

When may I begin walking or running or any type of light workout?   What should I do before the surgery to prepare? 

Do I need any special supplies at home?

What kind of stitches will be used?

How long will the absorable stiches take to absorb?

How should I care for my surgical incisions?

How long after surgery until I can drive?

When may I shower?

A week before surgery should I bath with anti-bacterial soap?

Do I need to elevate my legs while I sleep, after surgery?

How many times a day and for what intervals should I get up and walk around?
