Its a cold cold world after bypass
Well prior to RNY i was anemic and required yearly iron infusions. This was fabulous and I always responded well. Well fast forward 8 mos post RNY. I was at work freeeeeezzzzzzzing. I was wearing a wool sweater, a cable knot sweatwer, a thermal hooded jacket, a scrub top , a thermal under shirt and bra, not to mention pants and long johns. ALSO, a hospital thermal blanket forded in 4 and a pair of fleece gloves. And then they called a code in the ER. WTF. I had to shed my warmth and go to the ER. I am soooooooo cold now that I have lost a whole person. Just a funny little blurb i wanted to share.
I must chime in (which seems to be my primary goal for the day).
Prior to my RNY in May, I was the walking heater. I would start sweating like a pig if it was hotter than 68 anywhere. All of my friends gave me a hard time about it. My apartment was always boiling too (we have a boiler in our building).
Just to give you an idea...last winter I wore hooded sweatshirts. No winter coat.
Now, just a week shy of my 7 month surgery date and I'm freezing my a@@ off at the office. I checked the thermostat and it's set to come on at 68 degrees , but the little box said it was 71. I spend most of the day turning the heater I snagged from our receptionist on and off...it's set for 75.
At home, the boiler is lit, but I'm always cold. I supplement with a Lasko heater that has all sorts of buttons...and a remote! And I set that sucker for 75 to warm up my room.

same way...was always hot..thought i was in major perimenopause (or whatever its called hot flashes, swollen feet all the time when i was hot..which made my feet itchy..and then boom...65 lbs lost and i am freezing..heats show its 72 in the house and i have long sleeves on and fleece blankets on me..at night i am chilled to the bone and sleeping with extra blankets.
Yow nix thats a lot of clothes..ha!!

I was always too warm before surgery too! I started feeling cold in the hospital and it continued once I got home. It's especially bad at work. I'm 4 months postop.
Doesn't that mean that it was the surgery itself -- it being a gastric bypass or the anesthesia or whatever -- is what made us cold rather than the weight loss? Anybody have a theory as to the biological / physical reason for this?

I was also a hot box, but now I freeze almost all the time, but I admit I am too tight to turn my heat up past 70 and most times it is 68, but I am wearing twice the amount of clothes that I normally would wear and my sister freezes me to death and I burn her up. Last year this time, my heat was on 78 and I was fussing but I also knew that my father didn't have long to live and he was always cold. He was also paying the heat bill, too, that's why it was so high. It is just me now and I am trying to get by without hitting the savings, except for remodeling, that's the reason for the 68 degees.

Before I was perimenopausal about 7 years ago, I was usually cold in the winter time, while hubby was hot. Then while in menopause, I was so hot, I couldn't wear sweaters or thick winter tops. I also kept the home cooler, and couldn't sleep under the covers! My husband was cold! Now after losing some weight, I fluctuate between the two. I am ready to retire these private summers! I prefer the fireplace and coffee or hot cocoa any day!
