I have surgery on the 31st. I want to hear about all the things you don't read about or they don't tell you in support group.

I've read on here to never trust a fart. I've heard that you should wear depends the first couple weeks.

Please tell me your stories/issues with the "bathroom" issues after surgery. I want to make sure I'm prepared.

Thanks!

I didn't have any "bathroom" issues and haven't since the surgery. I've never heard the "wear depends" thing. Yes, you will most likely have loose stools after the surgery for the first week or so because of the liquid diet, but it's only that, not a "Can't make it to the bathroom in time" issue.

I had open rny and when I woke up I had a tube through my nose to my stomach. For me that was worse than any pain I was in. I gagged everytime I moved and that bugger stayed in for 3 days!! Thank goodness for morphine as I slept through it most of the time!

I did not have any bathroom problems either! I am 8 weeks out now and still have not had any problems! I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks preop and still did not have any problems. I had one loose stool after surgery, that was it! Good Luck!!

I had diarrhea for a month after surgery because I was on a liquid diet..but it was never an urgent I can't make it to the bathroom thing, so not sure about the depends thing?  I didn't have anything "gross" after surgery..

be prepared to feel like you are passing a watermelon through your @$$...with all the vits and protein, you will most likely need to "soften" things up. Or cry/practically pass out when you try and pass a poop baby

Good Luck!

I didn't have the bathroom go problems, my problem was NOT going.  I had to take Milk of Magnesia almost on a weekly basis as a new post op.  It depends on how your body reacts be prepared for either.

I WOULD agree with the "never trust a fart"...you think it's gas but no, you better be on that toilet! and yes, I couldn't wipe my own butt for a good week....I think that's all for the gross :)
