Just got my labs back and there are a few issues that are a concern...
Mainly my liver enzyemes and some other stuff....Any opinions or suggestions? My PCP doesn't seem to concerned, but I use A LOT of tylenol! (Vitamin use is very compliant!)
All are Serum labs...

Glucose: 102 H
BUN: 19 H
Creat: 1.12 H
...
AST: 47 H *
ALT: 92 H *
ALK PHOS: 149 H *

All these are HIGHER than last labs 5 months ago, even though I use less prescription meds, except for tylenol.

IRON:127
TIBC: 187 L

Transferrin Cal: 68 H
Ferritin: 249

t3 Uptake: 1.41
25-OH Vit D TOT. 128 H
....
MCV 98.8 H
MCH 33.5 H
MPV 10.9 H

CA+ Total: 10.1
PTH Intact: 13 (Borderline Low)
Ironized CA+ 5.4

Vitamin B12: 1521
Preablbumin: 34.5

I put mainly those results that were HIGH or Abnormal as well as some others "good/normal" labs for comparison.

If any more lab values are needed let me know...All others are considered within "Normal range".

My main concern is Liver function ? Should I push my PCP more to get a referral to a liver specialist?
Right now I am taking Milk Thistle and SAM-e to try and help with liver health because I know I am overdoing the tylenol (around 3900 mg per day for over 4 months). But need it for the pain (Using Vicodin, Fioricet and Tramadol daily).

Warmly,
Jackie

No advice on the labs....

But I do have some thoughts...

Are you taking tylenol over and above the Vicodin?  If you are, you may be getting way too much acetominophen as the Vicodin contains acetopminphen.  The Fioricet also has acetominophen.  The acetominophen daily limit is 4grams daily from all sources.

Can you get the doctor to order just hydrocodone instead of Vicodin...that way you can avoid the acetominophen in that pill?

The Fioricet also has acetominophen along with caffiene and butalbital.....not sure if you can get a different formulation for that but it may be worth asking about.

Good luck!

I don't know if it's possible to get hydrocodone without the tylenol added. At least not in the states.

There are supposed studies linking the two to better pain control, which is why they are a mixture, but what that results in is a toxic level....

Alternatively if the OP is on what I was (Norco, 5 mg, two tabs every four hours as needed .... 3900 mg tylenol if taken as directed)..... then there are some alternatives. Doc  switched me to 7.5 mg every three hours..... which dropped the tylenol to 2600....still not desireable but better.

Hydrrcodone alone is avaial. in the states....we somettimes use it on the paitents on my floor that have pain control issues and are getting too much tylenol (I am an OB nurse).  You are right...the tylenol helps the narcotic work better so it is a better formulation for pain issues....sometimes people are between a rock and a hard place with serious pain control probelems.

Just wanted to clarify:
I don't take any OTC Tylenol....All the acetominaphen (Tylenol) comes strictly from the Vicodin (it has 500 mg in it) and the Fioricet.

The 3900 mg of acetominaphen is from the mixture of the Vicodin and/or Fioricet.
I was prescribed Tramadol (no tylenol) and also Nucynta (also no tylenol). The Nucynta works good, but unfortunately the Fioricet is one of the only meds that really helps pain wise with my autoimmune disease to keep me mobile and exercising.

Average dose a day is Vicodin 2 tabs every 4-6 hrs
Fioricet 3 tabs every 4 hrs. (Because it wears off so fast).
Tramadol 5-8 tabs daily.

Also on Wellbutrin and Synthroid.
Hope this helps. I try and avoid any OTC meds with tylenol since I know I take so much from prescription meds.
I USED to take a Viprofin (Vicodin with Ibuporofin) which worked WONDERFULLY, but being post RNY no NSAIDS for me. And the Nucynta is an arm and a leg (over 200$) since it is not generic yet. (A very new drug).

Warmly,
Jackie
