Caffine Question

Why can't we have caffeine? I love tea. It is my go to drink. I'm getting used to adding a sweetener instead of sugar, but why do I have to search so hard for caffeine free? Is there really a problem with us having caffeine or is this just a best choice kind of thing?

Caffeine dehydrates and newbie post-ops have hard enough of a hill to climb without adding caffeine to the mix. However, tea isn't as high as coffee... There's regular decaf tea sold in most grocery stores and herbal teas don't have caffeine (not including green tea).

we are suppose to have 64 oz of water every day. For every caffinated drink you need 2 more glasses of water to offset the caffeine. It doesn't seem bad but it is a dehydrator. Once you hit the constipation you may think twice about drinking caffeine.

And, caffeine leaches calcium from your bones, in everyone, not just bypass patients. But since we need to take supplements because of surgery already, i'd limit the caffeine as much as I could.
