Why isn't he wanting to do sleeve to DS as you already have the first half done?  Why lose your pyloric valve?  I just don't understand this revision?  Did you ask about the DS?

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Thats what we were going to do but the insurance in jersey will not approve the ds only the bypass.

I understand that!   That would be your only option at our center and my insurance too.   But, I would have to self pay before going from sleeve to RNY.

is it that bad or is that just your choice? i guess its just like going in for the first time for surgery.

From all I have read and understand the RNY after a sleeve is the worst of both.  Try talking to the good people on the DS boards.  Many have been thru this and are more knowledgeable about the ills of this combo. They also are the people that can help you appeal.

RNY may help improve your diabetes............ it may return with the RNY.

Please look at this link:

http://www.dsfacts.com/Type-2-Diabetes-Cure.html

I am a revision from a failed RNY.  You can appeal your approval for your RNY and it is more than likely you can be approved to have the DS

((((((((((((Also............ DSers can eat way more, as we absorb less, due to the way the DS is done, as opposed to the RNY) Here is an example from someone else who has the DS:

WE have heavy duty mal-absorption, and that makes a HUGE difference. I was thinking about this last night. I ate some sunflower seed butter (like peanut butter, but made with sunflower seeds) late last night. 2 TBSP was 200 calories, I think I had 4 or 5 tbsp. (around 500 calories) but I would onlly absorb about 30% of it.

140 calories from fat PER 2 TBSP = 350 cals from fat (5 TBSP x 70 cals per TBSP)

20% fat absorption of 350 cal = 70 cal from fat.

the balance is protein and a couple carbs = 30 x 5 TBSP = 150 cal

70 cal from protein x 50% absorption = 35 cals

30 cal from sugar, (1.5g per TBSP) , 100% absorption.

50 cals from the rest of the carbs (mostly dietary fiber) @ 60% absorption = 30 cal

so adding it up:

70 from fat
30 from sugar
30 from carbs
35 from protein
--------------------
165 calories

165 \ 500 = 33.0 % absorbed.

SO, eat more, NO GUILT. You may find that your weight loss picks up!! You may be in starvation mode.
