For me she just reviewed my file, asked repetitive medical questions and signed off before I met with the surgeon. I was in and out fairly quick.

Might depend where you go. Mine did an ECG, checked blood pressure. Then asked medical questions. Asked about sleep apnea, and will send you to a sleep clinic if he felt the need. Checked in my mouth. Then signed me off and told me he would see me on my surgery day. And he did, He came right into recovery and met with me.

if you haven't already went for a sleep study, I would be asking to be sent by your family physician, as it can hold things up.

Good luck!

The Internist appointment is simple. They specialise in certain areas of the body. For me he checked my abdomen, ran blood tests, echocardiogram, checked my mouth, and sent me for a sleep study. Which by the way if you are going to Humber River Regional in Toronto the Internist will or at least the one I had (head of the bariatric dept) Dr. Glazier, will send a fax to the clinic up there that is amazing! Your spouse (if you have one) can even spend the night and share your bed, which the room looks like a smaller version of a nice hotel..LOL. Then I went back to him for a follow up and went talked about the surgery went thru any meds I was on and what was expected of me before and after the Roux en y. At that point he signed me off and I met with the surgeon about a month later and I am booked for surgery April 9th 2014. Good luck!
