Cough Medicine

What should I be looking for, when trying to find a cough medicine I can take? I have been taking the buckley's pills and they clear up my nose fine - but my cough is awful ( always is when I get a cold). So I want to see about getting a cough syrup. I am just not sure what would be okay for me to take, being post-op. Suggestions would be very grateful!!!

the best resource is your pharmacist. just tell him no NSAIDS, as little sugar as possible.

I always get the codeine cough syrup they hide behind the pharmacy counter. It doesn't have NSAIDS in it as far as I know and it does a great job on my cough.
