Emotional?
Hey y'all!
I have noticed lately that the closer this process gets to becoming reality the more emotional I'm getting. I've been a weeping bag of emo in the past week(i have my appointment with dr huynh on thursday) and I just can't seem to control it. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this happen? I know during weight loss one can be a little nutty but I wasn't expecting before.

Personally, I found that I had to "grieve" the loss of certain foods. I had to come to terms with the fact that I, personally, will never eat chocolate or ice cream again. I have decided to "give up" sugar and white flour for the rest of my life, ONE DAY AT A TIME, and therefore had to say "goodbye" to some old "comforting" foods. This is a personal decision and not necessarily part of the program in the long run, but I am doing this. I think we hold onto "comfort foods" and therefore "letting go" we have to "grieve". I don't know if any of this makes sense to you but, I definitely cried. It was like the death of an old friend!
Hope this helps.

Just be careful of the "all or nothing" mentality. It can bite you in the butt. It's a hard road and I've travelled it. It's hard to say that for the next 50 years you'll never ever have anything with white flour. I'm not saying permit it by any means...but it's very easy to do that and then beat yourself up when you are human.

You know, now you mention. It makes COMPLETE sense to me. I am in mourning. Of course I am. I love sugar and carbs like a second child so it's only rational(kinda insane) that one would need to grieve such things when they won't be part of our day to day. Thank you for the insight! Thought i was going doolally!

Does your family doctor have a counselor in his practice? It might benefit you to talk to a counselor during this process to help you as you said you got 'cold feet' in your earlier attempts and stopped the process. Talking to a counselor during this process might help keep things in perspective for you. Everyone is different is something you'll hear a lot here. The experience can be similar for some people but the surgery is a tool to help you get to your goal and is not without work and commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
Best wishes on your journey.
I see a therapist and shrink and i'm in Dialectical behavioural therapy. So my bases are covered.

I had a period of time like yours, pre-op. And it took me by surprise too. I worked through it and the fact that you are giving it some thought likely means you will work through it too. The advice about talking to someone is excellent. Never hurts to get some help working through tough stuff like this.
All the best as prepare yourself for the changes that are inevitable for this process.

You sound quite normal.... I think you are just dealing with all the emotions that come with having bypass surgery..all the appointments and tests, and the waiting for surgery date.
I went through oh my what if I fail and start binging again....will I hurt the surgery that is done. and the oh no fear of ...I can't have that the rest of my life. ... If you are concerned about the pain.. They will give you sufficient pain meds.
After you have healed.. the reward is the weight you've lost.... I've lost 65lbs since april 12th 2013.... but since my initial referral 2 years ago I was 350lbs... and with help from WLC i also lost weight with OPTIFAST....so i'm now 233.
I did cry...but, I have other problems going on in my life
YOU'RE NORMAL. I DID ALOT MORE CRYING AFTERWARDS....AND IT TOO HAS PASSED.
God Bless
