Surgery is set for the 15th, should I fear being in the hospital during Covid?

OK, so with help from many of you, my pre-surgery nerves were getting calmed down for the most part. I don'****ch every report that comes out about Covid numbers, but it's still here. Should I be nervous being in a compromised situation like surgery? Did anyone on here have surgery since February?

I had sleeve August 17 and Covid patients were quarantine away from surgery. I was nervous until my surgeon reassured me of the safety precautions and I saw how sanitary the surgery room was. If you trust your surgeon, you will be in good hands.

You should have a lot of healthy concern. Wear a mask whenever you leave your bed. There should be very few people in the hospital, but there are people who clean, prepare food, deliver your food, and do maintenance. Any of them could have COVID.

Use your normal precautions of mask, hand washing, and staying six feet away from people. Stay out of the visiting areas when you do your walking. Don't grab the handrails along the walls. Don't use public drinking fountains, they are probably taped off anyway.

Don't have any visitors.

I had kidney stone surgery in May. I was in the hospital four nights. I did all of the above.

White Dove, good advice, thank you. I hadn't even thought of hand rails and walking in public areas. I'm quite used to wearing gloves and masks already, and avoid people, but this brings to mind some of those things I hadn't thought about. Maybe I'll bring a few pairs of gloves just in case and maybe wipes.

I currently have Covid, but did not get it from hospital.

The only precautions you truly have are the ones outlined by White Dove. Take them seriously, but don't put off your surgery! Obesity is a big risk factor with this virus, so having surgery is absolutely going to improve your health.

I believe wholeheartedly that no longer being obese has been a mitigating factor in dealing with this horrible virus. Believe me, it sucks!

I don't have plans to put off my surgery, and it helps to have some of you providing solid advice and encouragement, it's very valuable to me. I wish you the best.

They keep the Covid patients in an isolated ward at most if not all hospitals and many don't allow visitors. (Sister is a nurse) I would think you are far more safe in a hospital setting than at a grocery store.

TJFox, I have a friend that works at the hospital where I'm having surgery, and she just told me that the Covid ward is in a complete separate area from where I will be, so that makes me feel better. Other advice I've gotten from a few others here has helped a great deal, so thanks to everyone!
