Ideas for family picnic

My family is having a surprise 75th birthday party for my grandma, and this is my first "food" event since my surgery. I begin the "soft food phase" on Saturday, the day of the party, so I'm wondering what I could really eat. I'm allowed to eat ground beef and stuff like that, so I'm wondering if I could eat the inside of a stuffed cabbage?

My aunt (who is hosting the event) offered to make some dishes that I can eat (ricotta bake), so I'm wondering if I should just do that instead of trying new foods at the party.

What did you guys try during your soft foods phase (not to confuse it with the puréed stage, which I am on right now)?

Personally speaking for myself I would not want to "experiment" trying a new food early in this phase.  Would not want to take a chance in case something would go wrong.  I would bring my own food just to be safe.

Stuffed cabbage normally has rice in it - I would have a hard time with this.  If your aunt is willing to make the ricotta bake, take her up on the offer!

I just thought about the rice, too. I think I'm just going to end up bringing some of the ricotta bake or have her make it.

Now, are we talking about lowfat chicken salad? I know my grandma makes chicken salad, but I'm 99% sure it's not lowfat.

It's not recommended by my nutritionist  to do low fat .It's actually beneficial to use full fat in moderation .

Interesting. I'm going to ask my grandma to make some but without the grapes and nuts she puts in. Thanks for the suggestion!

Honestly, you will probably be able to eat about 2 tablespoons of food.

It would be better to bring a shake, enjoy it and eat your food at home.

If you can eat eggs, deviled eggs would be a good food for a picnic.  You'll probably only be able to eat one, but it will taste wonderful.  One of my go to's was canned chicken processed in my food processor with some mayo and curry powder.
