Thanks for sharing. People love to argue about this with me. "I'm exercising 3 hours a day but I refuse to eat less, why am I not losing weight?" Drives me insane!!

This was perfect, I have been reading small articles with little research backing them.  But they were also suggesting that you should exercise if you want to because it's good for your body, however not to do it and think you'll loose weight.

Thanks for sharing.

This makes me wonder then how do those people lose 100 to 150 pounds on the Biggest Loser in a 4 month period of time, I realize that their diet is restricted but losing that amount of weight has to have something to do with all that exercising they do on there.

For some people - Exercise is going to burn calories. A lot of exercise will burn more calories.  That combined with very restrictive diet can help a person lose 100 lbs in 4-5 months.

And only those who are able to lose more weight with exercise remain on the show till the end. Some that just need diet - and their body is resistant to exercise - get eliminated early on.

Same why some of us post op WLS can lose 100 lbs in 6 months while others need 1-2 years to do that.

Great summary article!  It's ironic that people tend to worry about the highly popular 'starvation mode' myth associated with low cal diets when in reality it's copious amounts of exercise that makes the body become more stingy and use less calories.

Exercise causes stress on the body - casues cortisol increase. Cortisol prevents weight loss and makes us hungry. We may eat more. Some of us - have to eat more to prevent blood sugar drop.

Btw- I have adrenal insufficiency, so I have to take extra steroids if I plan to exercise..and I need to have carby snack handy while I exercise in case my BS drops. I do exercise to increase my mobility. But even walking will make my BS drop unless I take extra steroids.

A lot of times I see people complain about low BS during exercises and typicsl advice from trainers or even other exercise people is to have some carbs (banana, protein bar) before exercises... . Unless someone is trying to build muscles - how eating extra carby calories before and after the workout is going to help them lose weight?
