Best NSV of all

I'm almost 18 months out, and having my surgery was easily one of the best decisions I have ever made.  I am fortunate that I had no complications, and by following my instructions, I surpassed my surgeon's expectations.  In the last year and a half, I have had a ton of NSVs.  But this one is the best one of all:

My whole family is so much healthier.  Not all spouses make changes when we go through WLS, but I have an amazing wife, and she has made incredible changes in her own life.  She has lost 90 lbs on her own and there's no doubt that I would've have been so successful so far without her.  And my daughter has gotten so healthy also.  She was always kind of a chubby kid, but since we as a family made a change to eat healthier and be more active, she has actually lost a couple of pounds while she keeps growing taller.  Her doctor was so impressed and happy for her, because she's doing so well.

Last Sunday, on Easter, instead of just sitting around and eating sugar, we actually decided to go on a bike ride before going to Easter dinner.  We never would've done that before!  In fact, family bike rides have become our new Saturday afternoon tradition, and we try to squeeze more in during the work week whenever we can.

I just had to brag about my amazing girls.  I love them!

Congrats, Bill!  What a wonderful NSV.  You have a beautiful family and there is nothing better than being healthy and having fun together!

I'm only 8 months post op, but the changes I've made have really changed things for ME. My hubby recently decided he was getting a bit jealous of all the progress I've made and decided to crack down on his eating.  He's calorie counting and going low carb (he's a long time type 2 diabetic, so he really needs this).  Since the beginning of the year he's lost 30 pounds!

Also, on Easter Sunday, my husband, my oldest son who is 16 and I put my youngest who is 2 in a stroller and went for a brisk 3 mile walk.  My oldest son is obese and my diet has really affected how he eats.  I haven't pushed him to get on the scale lately, but I believe that he's also lost a bit of weight since I had surgery.  Last night I signed us all up to the the Color Vibe 5k run in Ann Arbor this August.

That's so great.  I'm having my procedure in about 10 days and my husband has just completed the pre-reqs for his.  We are hoping to change our family's legacy of obesity for our young son.  This is where I hope we'll be a year from now.  Thanks for sharing.
