Collagen based proteins are incomplete proteins and lack the essential amino acids we need to process them.  You are NOT absorbing tthis protein and it is doing you NO GOOD what so ever.  Here is an article that explains why we need to use a complete protein (Whey Isolate is the best)  after surgery.

It's not really true that collagen protein doesn't do us any good. Our bodies can use it for a lot of things, but it's not a complete protein in that there are some essential amino acids it doesn't contain, and we MUST get them from an alternate source. We can't survive with ONLY collagen protein, but we do absorb it and we do use it.

The protein that collagen provides isn't as effective as whey isolate. So I wouldn't rely on it to actually provide my body with the numbers you state. (I do add collagen to my morning shake, but I use it for the joint benefits, not the protein viability.)

My version of the plan is also big on portion size. So for me, there is no "grains if I'm not full" because I only eat what I measure. Eating until fullness isn't ever a great strategy.

It's all pretty much just common sense. It's just really hard to do sometimes.

SOOOOO true - on EVERY level! Just goes to show the reality of what we really are and WHY we must continue to work on it until health becomes our new instinct. Every day is a thinking process, heck every meal. We have to chose to make healthy decisions. In the beginning, and when I say beginning I mean -at least for me still-up to year or so, we have to think out our daily battles. We have to plan. No plan, no win. We're still on automatic from before our WLS. Health, good nutrition, activity has to become our new routine or we will snap back to what we were, really what we are. Our transformation is just beginning, the tool does it 55%-70%, after that we become the tool. Grim, you just don't know how profound those words "it's all pretty much just common sense. It's just really hard to do sometimes." are! I love this journey, learning so much about myself and how messed up my wiring was! Thanks.

Planning is critical. When I've been having a more difficult time, I'll weigh out a day's worth of food in the morning, put it in a pile, and tell myself that's what I can eat today. If I eat it too early, I'm going to be miserable for hours later. It helps me make better choices.

There are lots of plans that work. We just need to find a plan that works, then work the plan.

It is usually protein forward meals. 60-80g protein minimum and 64oz fluid minimum. Some include a calorie range as well(mine didn't) - Little or now carbs. As my Surgeon puts it --- Protein first then veggies and then if you have any room left fruit and carbs. Doesn't say no carbs, but it is at the end of the list.

Trust the plan and work the plan....the weight will fall off again. This is normal and will happen alone this journey. Take pictures monthly and compare them to see the changes.

There is not enough info to really respond to:

-how often do you weigh - never more than once a week

-how much did you lose in the first 6 weeks - if it was a bunch, your body is just adjusting, relax and stay with the process.

-how close are you to your goal weight, how old are you.

All these factors can influence weight loss

I never lost a lot in a week - I would lose about 2 pounds a week (whereas a friend of mine lost 30 pounds the first month, then 25 the second), but over 9 months - bingo - I am at my goal weight

This video by Dr Weiner is excellent to address your question. He was not my surgeon, but I find his info is spot-on:

Please let me know if there is a problem with the link, this video is great.  Let me know what you thought of the video.

I know its easier said than done, but DON'T SWEAT IT!!!  It happens to everyone.  The number on the scale means far less than the actual body fat you are losing.  Water does funny things, putting on muscle from exercise adds weight.  Stalls are totally normal.  I know they are very frustrating and can be disheartening.  We all feel that.  Just stay the course and you will be fine.  Really.  I was totally bummed because I haven't lost anything in the past 3 weeks.  Not an ounce.  But I just came from my DR who did the full body InBody scan again.  Since my last visit 2 months ago, I have lost 23 pounds of body fat and added 8 pounds of lean muscle.  The scale alone couldn't show that.  Victory!!!

Keep doing what you are doing, get your protein in, drink plenty of water, do whatever activities you can for exercise...it will work.  It will work.  It will work.
