Congrats on your WLS.

What's your doctor say you should be doing? That's the most important person to listen to. I'd call the office and ask about the walking and tell them about the pain you are experiencing too.

Mine had me lapping the nurses station several times a day on day 2 (open RNY) and then building up every day from there.

I was made to walk at the hospital, and sent home with instructions to walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip.  I used my treadmill the day after I got home...on a very slow setting.....I went outside to walk when the weather was nice.

Follow the instructions of your medical team, and hang in there!  It gets much better quickly.

I'm 14 days postop and am walking a minimum of a mile a day, most days its closer to 2.5 miles. I know everyone says it, but activity really does help the pain.

I had my surgery the same day as you. I was up begging the nurse within hours of being in my room to let me walk the halls... i was cleared not much later to walk alone and i did. 2 days post op i was walking in my local grocery store shopping at least 20 minutes. Also walked around walmart yesterday for like 35 minutes.. when i am home i walk around my house a lot.

I got a walking schedule from the physical therapist the day i left the hospital.. first 6 days was like 8 min 3x day and then it increases to like 12 min 3x a day and it keeps going up from there.

No.... You definitely shouldn't start walking now so early. You need to give yourself atleast a 2 weeks rest before you begin any physical activity

Walking around the house is easy to accomplish and is usually recommended early on, HOWEVER, check with your surgeon's office. Even if all you do is walk to the bathroom and back a number of times a day, it is keeping you up and moving.

Walking out of the house may come later...I was 2 weeks before I managed to get out of the house to walk, but managed fairly well AT home.

Walking will help the pain.   Ridiculous to say no walking for 2 weeks ...   Excuses are just that - excuses!  No one's telling you to go run a marathon but you should be able to walk a block and back at 5 days  - get out and get some fresh air!
