wife lost her job... I'm depressed & nervous... food will not help

Went to the gym at work instead of out to lunch for comfort food because I know it wont help anyway.

Unfortunately the gym membership is one of the first things we are going to cut to save costs.  That isnt to say I cant go for a walk or bike ride for free.

Other than my surgery I've not really had any major stress in my life since then.  Interested to see how the family will deal with this.

I acknowledge your choice of the gym rather than eating! We had to cut my gym membership because of costs, so I run 5 miles a day, and do some workout DVDs. I find exercise essential to my maintenance- I never thought I would ever say that!

Sorry about your wife's job- may she find another one soon!

BTW, your before & after on your avatar looks so good!

I am so sorry about your wife losing her job!  That is a very hard thing to go through!

I suggest going on craigslist daily and checking out the free section for your area.  A lot of times people that have to move give away exercise equipment for free!

Good luck to you!

I'm sorry to hear that. My husband lost his job not that long ago; his unemployment will run out the end of this year and it's pretty stressful.

Like you seem to be, we've made some hard decisions and now have ourselves set so we can live on my salary. In fact, we've decided to do that now and put his unemployment in savings against a rainy day. We're not living luxuriously, but we'll get by.

I think making a conscious decision not to turn to food for comfort is a huge step in the right direction. For the most part when we make mistakes like that it's blindly, without thinking. Just thinking about what we're doing and why is half the battle. Of course, the other half of the battle is not giving in to ourselves.

I wish you both the best!

In a meantime - try talking to the gym manager. If you were a member for a long time - they may let yo keep the membership for free for 1-2 months or longer and hope your wife will find another job.   It does not hurt to ask them, right?

I know how you feel about the job thing.  My husband has been unemployeed since July.  Right before I had my surgery, really has had my nerves crazy.  Bad thing is I am on long term disability for a bone disease I have.  So I dont contribute much finanacially.  It has been a hard few mths, but the job market sucks at this time.  He finally got a glimmer of a job, hope it all goes well because we are almost out of savings.  good luck to you and your wife!

My heart goes out to you.  I've been unemployed for 2 years and can understand what you are going through.  I'm glad that you went to the gym instead of eating.  That's very important milestone in times of stress.

Proud of you for choosing the gym instead of what was probably once a comfort, food. I'm not sure where you're located but I go to Planet Fitness (they're nationwide) and it's only $10 a month and they even have trainers available at no extra cost. Love it.
