i was approved for surgery  per my dr i dont have a surgery date but im on this board alot i find it so helpful and supporting i have decided to adapt a low  carb llow sugar diet  no liquid calories to make surgery transition easier . my concern is that im already considered a lightweight although my all time highest  was 295 years ago when i went in for consult i was 231 in 5ft 3 in . im worried if i lose 10 lbs or so the insurance will change their minds am i being paranoid?

also any other suggestions or tips i can do now pre-op to make things easier?

If you are already approved, I don't see what the problem is.  They want you to lose weight on the preop diet.  I wouldn't worry.

Don't worry.  I started at 247 and am 5ft 3in also and lost to 219 before my pre-op diet and surgery was approved.

Now I am in Canada and healthcare covered mine so it might be different. But when I went in for consult i was 298 and at orientation I was told people who start to live like they will post op are typically more successful - so I did. I lost 50lb before surgery and 3 weeks out I am down to 226. My surgeon was so happy with my own weightloss and said that I would likely be more successful post op.

Good luck :)

I was a lightweight too at 5'3" and 235 lbs.  The insurance looked at what I was when I went in for the original consult.  I lost 17 lbs. and was 218 at the time of surgery.   Was approved with no problems.  Now that was BCBS of Nebraska; each insurance company is different.

I would contact your insurance company and ask for confirmation of their guidelines...and get it in WRITING!

The only way to know for sure is to call your insurance company and find out what their policy is.

Your concern is understandable.  Each carrier is different.  Some go by the weight of your first appointment, and some the day of surgery.  Do yourself and favor and call and find out.  No reason to stress over nothing.

Good luck!
