Food Funerals/Last Suppers?

When it comes to Food Funerals/Last Suppers...Did anyone do this? Does anyone wish they had or hadn't? What's your feeling/opinion about it now?

The two weeks out from my surgery date, when I need to start my liquids, happens to line up pretty well with Valentine's Day and My husband and I's anniversary.  Considering going for a nice dinner as kind of a Valentines/Anniversary/Last Supper scenario but I'm feeling kind of funny about it.  Since making this surgery decision my attitude is already changing about food and it is not quite signalling REWARD!! CELEBRATION!! Like it used to.

What do you guys think? What did you guys do? Any advice?

You'll probably get a lot of mixed answers here, but I don't see anything wrong with enjoying something that you won't be able to have again for a while post op (an excellent steak, a favorite spicy food, etc)... That being said, I think it's best to avoid a "last binge." Better to just go ahead and accept that THAT particular part of your old lifestyle is over.

See, and those are the things I haven't been considering, thanks for sharing your wisdom!  Spicy might be a good one to do, because I am sure that will be off of the table for some time.

Ha! I don't know about "wisdom" ;) But, yeah. Spicy food was off the table for me for quite a while. I'm just NOW reintroducing some of my favorites, and I'm still experiencing heartburn... Oh well! With a cajun background, I suppose I'll just have to keep Tums on me because I'm NOT giving up my HEAT!!

I did, and I have no regrets. I didn't go hog wild with it, but I ate things like popcorn, steak, baked potato, salad, and pancakes because I knew it would be a very long time until I could eat them again. Oh, and chocolate covered cherries (it was Christmas!)  DH gave me a small box of 6 and I did my best to eat them all, but in the end I just had to toss them. In the past I could have polished that off in a day, but after dieting for 3 months, I just couldn't do it. I guess that's a good thing.

Since surgery I have worked hard to be on plan. Yesterday I had some temptation. DH brought home a carten of Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Therapy and that stuff is like crack!  I ate a spoonful, but only a spoonful. I think that stuff is going to have to go into the garbage dispenser because chocolate ice cream is a hot button for me.

Me and husband have already come up with a plan that if he needs something that I can'****ch him eat or stand to have in the house he is going to the "auto parts store".  I know what it means, he knows what it means, but at least I can a small amount of denial about it in my head abou it. :)

I went out to dinner with my hubby the night before my liquid diet started and I intended on kind of pigging out. But, once i was there i just didn't crave anything too exciting. I ended up having a sald with ranch and a sirloin steak. I'm really glad I did it...i really love steak!

I'm thinking that perhaps a "nice" dinner doesn't have to mean a "fatty carb laden pig out fest" anymore.  I am considering maybe choosing Seasons 52, I guess everything on their menu is supposed to be under 450 calories and they do small portions and tastings of really fresh food.  I think I would like that kind of a kick-off to liquids more than a trip to Golden Corral.

What I did was start making a list while I was doing my 6 mos. supervised diet and then on Sun. I could eat whatever I wanted (in moderation). That way I could eat pizza or ice cream, whatever on that one day so I knew I wan't gonna miss out on it. By the time I had my surgery I had tasted anything I thought I might miss after surgery. As it turns out I can eat anything I want now except doughy things they still don't work but I don't miss them anyway so not a problem. My last treat the day before my surgeons strict diet was a yummy Reuben sandwich, yum, now I just make and eat the insides of them.

I feel like I have killed, buried, and mourned carbs at least 20 times in my life.  Even though I haven't had the surgery yet, I know the secret to weight loss for me is being carb-free, it always works for me, but it never lasts, my hunger gets the better of me and I feel the need to stuff bread, pasta, rice, and potatos into the bottomless pit I've been calling a stomach until I finally feel "full".  I need to figure out a way to really say good-bye to those things for GOOD!
