The constipation topic! (sorry everyone)

I am about a month and a half out from surgery, and holy constipation! I'm just curious as to how often others are taking Colace/stool softener.. I don't want to take it every day, but I can't seem to stay regular. If I'm lucky, I'm going once every week!!

Any and all help would be much appreciated!!

It took me a while to get a regular pattern.  Now I take 1/2 a capful (1/2 dose) of Miralax every other day.  That seems to keep me regular without over-doing it.  If its been a while, I up it to every day until I see results.

Good luck with your weight loss journey.

This may be your new normal and you may always have to take a stool softener and occasionally a laxative. At 3.6 years out I still have to take a stool softener at least every other day and if I don't go that day by. Bedtime I have to take a laxative.

Even with the DS portion of my sleeve I will be constipated ifi get too far off my bowel program.

I am so happy someone brought up this subject.  I am 2 1/2 weeks post surgery and was wondering the same thing!

Thanks!

I didn't have any issues after surgery but I took the stool softer as recommended for a week or so. I recently within the last couple of weeks have been having some issues. However, I tried smooth move tea last night...I was impatient and drank 4 cups/2 tea bags...and I have been going and going...When they say your full of ****they were talking about me LOL, not anymore.

Good luck!

I do a capful of miralax twice a week.  I assume that I will require it as least once a week for forever even when I can get more food items in me that can help with the issue.  Thanks for reminding me that I need to buy some more tomorrow when I go get groceries!  :)

I'm not suggesting this to you, but I had a severe problem with constipation.  I finally started adding a little more carbs in my diet and started eating just the softer meats again (egg salad, tuna, chicken salad, lunch meat, etc) and this has been helping!

This has been - in general - an absolute nightmare for me. The posters above have done a great job by showing that many of us have to develop a regular routine of taking something daily or every few days.

It's a real struggle for me because I have alternating IBS. I have to stay very diligent to keep the constipation from making me totally miserable - but then I switch over to diarrhea. I have to write down "what happened" every day then take something right away when needed.
