I am 4 weeks out tomorrow. Is this heartburn temporary or a new way of life??

I've heard it go either way...  You could start off by trying a mild acid reducer like zantac.  If that doesn't work, you may need a stronger PPI like prilosec.  Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I'm on Pepcid twice a day, per my surgeon's plan. I have my 1 mo. follow-up on Thursday. I'll ask about Zantac.

My surgeon uses Prilosec for all pts for 3 months. U do not want to develop gastritis on suture line in stomach. It may cause an ulceration.

I'm taking Pepcid now. I'll ask about Prilosec too at this week's follow-up. Thanks!

Do you have it all the time?  I get it at night as I posted earlier to the question about how late we eat....so I try not to eat or drink past 8...don't have any issues with it during the day though.

Well, today I had it almost all day. BUT then again, my lunch (ate out for the second time since surgery) had more spices than I'm used to. I had some wicked spasms too and didn't have my meds on me because I'm an idiot :(

Like I said to another response, I'm taking Pepcid, but it hasn't really helped at all today.

Oh, and I typically don't eat for more than an hour before bed.

Pepcid wasn't enough for me, and I was placed on Protonix . You may need a proton pump inhibitor ( ppi).

It is definitely a learning process...may want to track food on MFP as well as severity to see if you can eliminate it by something you are eating...and do speak to your doctor.
