Man I was starving right after surgery. And have had hunger most of the time and then it turns out it was my darn acid reflux. So I changed medications and it got better. Also drink as much sugar free fluids as you can and that will help a lot with the hunger sensation.
Stay away from restaurants and eating out anywhere until you are in the pureed stage or next time bring something along that you can enjoy while others eat real food.
Good luck.
Hugs,
Rita
Everyone is different but it sounds like it was more painful for you to tag along. I would have stayed home if I was you. However, I haven't been hungry since surgery (thankfully) and I watch cooking shows all the time. My mother always asks me how I can watch them over and over and not be starving...because she was LOL.
If you are hungry, I would definitely talk to your surgeon's staff about an acid reducer. Proton Pump Inhibitor/PPI, that should help if you aren't on one now.
Good luck!

I don't prescribe to the whole "why would you go out to a restaurant!?!?" philosophy. Real life continued around me and just because I chose to have surgery, I didn't choose to isolate myself from my friends and family. I went out to dinner frequently in my first few weeks as thats how my world works. I just used the time to chat, drink more water and enjoy their company (and once I could...have some soup or something similar).
That fact that they were eating didn't bother me in the slightest (in fact it grossed me out and made me acutely aware of how fast people eat!). It certainly didn't make me any less committed to my journey.
