Hi Everyone!!

I have just started my journey a couple weeks ago.  I am going to Bariatric Specialists of NC.  Dr. Tyner is my surgeon.  I'm very pleased with how well this is all coming together for me.  However I've run into one small snag...I can't find a doctor who accepts my insurance (TRICARE PRIME) for the psych eval.  I will be spending a good part of my day off calling all the doctors on my Tricare list.  Please let me know if you know of any docs who accept Tricare Prime for the psych eval in Raleigh.  I'd really appreciate it.

My sleep study is Tuesday 8/4 and I meet with the nutritionist on 8/11.  I'm so excited to have this surgery done (RNY) and get my life back!!

I hope everyone has a great day!

Welcome and congratulations on embarking on your journey!  I had Dr. Tyner as my surgeon too!  Love him and his staff

Ok, there was more to my response but it looks like it was cut off for some reason.
Does Tricare have a website where you can look for providers online?  If not, call the member services line (usually listed on the back of your card) and they should be able to look up local drs for you.

Good luck with everything!

Thanks for the input!  I've been working with TriCare but the problem is that they don't know which of the psych doctors do the evals....I've been calling all the ones who list eating disorders as one of their specialities.  I did reach one today who does psychiatric evaluations vs psychological evals - I emailed Dona at Dr. Tyner's office to see if that'll work.  Thanks again!!

Welcome to OH!  I am new too.  Good luck with the tricare, I wish I could help but I have no experience with them.

I had my EGD today and still feel kind of loopy.  I meet with the sleep doc tomorrow morning and have an appointment with the hematologist in August.  I already have an apt. w/the pysch my clinic uses, but can't remember when it is.  I met with the nutritionist yesterday (though I will readily admit I haven't eaten very well today, can I blame it on the drugs?).

I am also having a RNY. I wanted a sleeve but insurance doesn't cover it.

Good luck with everything. Hope the sleep study goes well for you. It's nice to have someone who is experiencing the same things. :-)

Hi Kim,

I wanted to take a moment to say hello and welcome you to the group. I look forward to getting to know you as you make this life-changing journey. Re: eating well today or not... know that every time you get ready to have something to eat it's an opportunity to make a positive impact and water that's under the bridge is already gone.

I understand that you wanted a sleeve, but if it makes you feel any better, you are likely to do very well with your RNY  and as long as you are compliant with your supplementation, you should expect to not only look fabulous, but feel fabulous for the long term.

Wishing you every success as you make your way. I hope that you will feel free to ask questions along the way.

Warmly,

Barbara

Wooo Ladies I sure am glad I had mine done 6 years ago. Things sure did change. I had to have a phych evel but it was just a test on paper. And one visit with the nut. And one week liquid diet. I was approved in like 1 or 2 days. I had no real health issues. Just my kneese wore out. No dibetes. No heart problems. No high blood pressure. Just wore out knee joint. And at my age they wouldn't replace the joints. They just said get the weight off them. Woooo sounds hard now a days.

Hi Nola,

Sarah's recommendation was on the money and you are right it can take some work to find someone to do the eval for you if the Dr's affiliated with your surgeon's office do not take Tri-Care. If you haven't been able to find someone yet, I would suggest that you cross post this to the following forums: Main, RNY and Insurance. There are folks that will go to those forums that don't necessarily visit here and may have the answer you are looking for.

I have a support group that meets in Raleigh and you are most welcome to come to any of the meetings that I host. If you would like information about the meetings you can go to www.meetup.com/nc-wls. Sarah and a number of the other folks in central NC belong to and often attend the meetings.

I look forward to getting to know you as you go through this incredible, life-changing journey.

All the best,

Barbara
