Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone else had severe air loss after surgery? I had bypass done march 1 2013 and loss over half my hair. had blood work done and everything is fine but booked to see hormone specialist. I knew it was a possible side effect but i feel bald which in turn has brought back some depression again. any advice greatly appericated.

yes, i am with you, i have lost mot of my hair.  it started at bout 6 months and i am almost 18 months out and it MAY have stopped but not sure.  i wear wigs, take biotin, blood work was all good as well.

i recently got a new saucy haircut for my real hair.

im going with the flow.  im not sure if there is anything that can be done besides getting our protein in.

if you do find something, please let me know

Thanks Sunnie, i', taking it a bit hard, i mean i know it is just hair but i used to have really long thick hair that is gone. I try to get in as much protein as possible, Biotin? sorry never heard of it. might go for a cut to try and make things look better :)

I have lost quite a bit of hair and it is still falling out. I went to the hair dressers last week and got a super short cut as well. I am pretty tall so no one can see the bald spots unless they are at least 6'4".

Pretty normal, this is one thing they warn us about, and in every forum, you will hear about this.

I had like a 3 month period where it was really bad, huge chunks of hair falling out every single day, my hair was pretty thin to start with and I didn't go bald. It should pass and should get back to your normal soon if it hasn't already has

How long did it take to start growing back and when it did was it the same or did the texture etc change?

If i remember right, it was right around the 3rd month mark where it started, and lasted about 3 months, after that i was loosing about the same as my normal before.

It started growing back slowing after, and still now, i notice a lot of baby hairs sticking up sometimes, so they are still growing. my hair is basically same now as before surgery.

Yes! I had surgery on 4/8/13 and started loosing my hair badly.  I do not brush my hair anymore cause if I do I will lost tons of hair. I can not put my fingers through my hair  without any hair falling out.  I lost hair even if I don't touch my hair. Hair falls all over my clothes and all around me. It's making me depressed because now I look like a boy who is on cancer treatments.  People ask me if I have cancer cause of how much hair  I have lost. My hair use to be down to my back now its near my ears.  and keeps getting shorter. My test results when I was in the hospital for hernia  surgery came all normal.... So I dont know whats wrong.

Feel your pain and depression.  I started losing hair at the 3 month mark - handfuls at a time.  When I wa**** I must clear the drain before I am finished rinsing.  I am now a little over 5 months out.  Trying to find the positive in it.  I was blessed with extremely thick hair - so my hairdresser said now I just have hair like a normal person :). Since my last visit is has gotten even thinner and I find it frustrating to try and style as I am used to all that hair.  Same problem with my nails.  I always had nice long, strong nails that grew quick.  But now they are short and brittle.  I do take 2500 of Biotin and my bloodwork is perfect.  Protein intake is 80-100gr per day.  I am optimistic with the comments I have heard that this lasts about 3-4 months.  Trying not to let it get me down - this is just a temporary thing.
