Depending on the size you are eating they really are not 'full' of carbs... if you make a few small pancakes you wouldnt be eating many carbs. Personally I use a whole wheat pancake mix I buy at trader joes.. since its fall I like to mix in canned pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice for some flavor (and vitamin A!).

(even thou I dont have much) and wrote one big letter to my family. I left the enevelope on the table and told my Dad to only open it if something happened to me. After surgery I got home and tore it up.

All NUTs have a different view on coffee - the rule of thumb is if your coffee has caffeiene it does NOT count towards your fluids. You should be drinking approx 64oz of sugar free, caffeine free liquids a day - some people need less, you can judge by your (pardon me) pee... if you are peeing clear then you are drinking enough... if you have color to your urine keep drinking.

My NUTs plan called for the following
to lose weight
40% protein 30% carbs 30% fat
to maintain weight
30% protein 40% carbs 30% fat

Yyour carbs should mainly be comming from fruits, veggies, dairy and lastly starch/carb - for 1000 calories my suggestion would be 1-2 servings from bread/starch (keep in mind a post-WLS serving is small, 1 slice of bread, 1/2 a typical serving of crackers).

At 5 months out I was to be around 600-800 calories a day. When I had my 6 month appointment it was moved to 800-1000 calories.

There is no need to attack my surgeon. Everybody has their own opinions, which is fine, and I appreciate listening to them but there is no need to act childish to get a point across.

I am over two years out and get my bloodwork done every 6 months and am fine, my best friend is over 6 years out and she is fine... any long term people that come to the support group (5 years out or more) are fine. I keep in contact with my surgeon and his staff and they have yet to come across issues with patients taking the flintstones.

You will get there - it took me 1.8 years to get to my current weight of 145lbs... my weightloss slowed dramatically the further I got out but it kept moving and thats all that mattered - I decided it didnt matter when I reached goal just that I reached it - honestly looking back the time just zipped by. I know its hard waiting but just keep focused on developing good habits, working out, eating right and all that jazz and in the end all that work will benefit you and keep that scale moving!

Topic: RE: can a person with RNY starve to death with losing too much weight?
Its not common for people to be underweight from the surgery itself - you can talk to your surgeon about their experience with their patients. There are some that struggle to maintain a healthy weight, they typically have to keep a close eye on what they eat and suppliment with protein shakes etc.
Keep in mind somebody who had RNY may die from malnutrition but its realted to having an eating disorder more than the surgery itself.
Typically the body will slow down/stop losing weight when it hits a comfortable spot... if you get to a point you want to stop losing then you move to 'maintenance eating' which typically is an increase in calories/carbs to help you maintain the weight you are at.

Its really a matter of that person, how well they eat, the type of surgery, how much was bypassed and their surgeon's thoughts on flintstones as well as current research information.
There really is no set answer since much is unknown about the long term effects of bypass surgeries. My surgeon said 2 flintstones a day for life, my friend is 6 years out from surgery with him and is fine, I am over 2 years out and am fine... so we will see.

Topic: RE: still researching...what to expect
Each person is so different you really shouldnt set any sort of expectation for yourself - there are a million factors that go into it - the biggest being type of surgery... if you are considering the RNY surgeons bypass different amounts, typically the more bypassed means faster weight loss (however the end result is the same, no matter how much or little bypassed the amount you can lose doesnt change).
My surgeon said to expect 10-15lbs the first 6 months, 5 after (RNY)... he does proximal bypasses... there are people who lose much much more and others who lose less - I think its more important to focus on nutrition, exercise, suppliments and developing good habits that will help you KEEP the weight off than worrying about how much you can lose and how quickly - doesnt no good to lose the weight if you didnt prepare yourself for the work that is required to keep it off.

You need to call the surgeon and have them address these issues with you - are you on any medications currently that could be adding to this misery? You should not be heading to the bathroom every time you have something.. thats not normal. I wonder if you are having a bad reaction to the anesthesia or pain meds? Have you had surgery previously or was this your first?
Again I would really push your surgeon about these issues, the NUT isnt any help.. dumping is caused by too much fat/sugar, not by every single thing you eat.

I eat 3 meals and 3-4 snacks every day. Immediately after surgery I got on a food schedule and I have stuck to it for over 2 years now... the further Ive gotten out I just worked the additional snacks in. I feel like I eat all day long but its what I need to do to get my calories in (1400 minimum). Its really not all that hard once you start doing it and stick to it... its basically a habit for me now, I dont get hungry (very rarely) but I do get cranky if I wait to long, my body just sort of lets me know 'its time'.

To be honest it sounds like you never broke your old patterns.
Even if you cant physically get to the counselor how about a session over the phone? Has the counselor reccomended any books about changing habits, food addiction etc that you can be reading while recovering from surgery?
Just because you can eat things doesnt mean you should - why not start by 'cleaning house' and getting rid of the junk food/bad food and loading the fridge with healthy post-WLS foods... measure out your portions and pre-box/bag/container what you need for a day, a few days or a week. If you have family around enlist their help and make it a family project, dont just sit and struggle alone...
both ideas above were good - do you have a support group in your area? if not, make your own support system with other post-WLSers you can visit, call, email, write... basically communicate with, doesnt matter if they are down the street or across the country.
Also remember why you had this surgery. What did you go thru to get it? Did you ever imagine pre-op at only 3 months out post-op youd still be stuck in your old ways? Get your motivation back and get back on track and stop just sitting back and letting things happen.
Call your surgeon, call your NUT let them know you are struggling and see what additional resources/suggestions they have - perhaps you need more help with nutritional counceling and a more specific plans/goals laid out for you to take out some guess work. Hard to say but you have to put  in the work in order to be successful.

I was told no seeds/nuts until 5 months out or later (also no citrus!) - no matter how well you chew there are still little pieces that can get stuck along the way. Of course check with your surgeon/NUT on their guidelines. If you are eating them for protein/fat then try natural pnut butter since its already nice and smooooth for yah :-)

This surgery isnt really about losing the weight, its more about giving you a tool that will help keep you off. We all lost weight pre-op, but none of us could ever keep it off which is why we had surgery. It took time for you to put the weight on, it will take time to get off. 11+ in a week has to be water weight or relating to TOM, you couldnt physically gain 11lbs of fat in a week. Perhaps call your surgeon/NUT and see if they can help - also keep track of your salt... it causes you to regain water... I can easily gain 5-8lbs in water weight from too much salt.

When did you have surgery, what surgery did you have? Did you even have surgery? Are you trying to lose weight or maintain weight? Its hard to say if you are average or not because it depends on so many things.

Personally I think you fat is much too low, your body needs fats (hair, skin, nails etc)... you want to stick to mainly fats from natural sources - nuts, nut butters, olive oils, avacados etc - my NUT said never to go below 20g, Im not sure what the RDA amount is.... you want to limit your animal fats and avoid saturated fats.

My plan is as follows
to lose - 40% protein, 30% carbs, 30% fat
to maintain - 30% protein, 40% carbs, 30% fat

Carbs are not the enemy - carbs are in fruits, veggies dairy as well as bread/starch... bad foods are the enemy - you do not want to eat 'white carbs' - basically anything processed, refined, enriched... even if the package claims 'whole grain' or 'whole wheat' you still have to read the ingrediants because there is no regulation as to what is concerning whole grain or whole wheat - it can still be a processed food. The majority of your carbs should be fruits, veggies, dairy and the bread/starch last.. but they should still be  apart of your diet IMO.

Also 2400 calories seems very high, but it depends on your current height/weight. Keep in mind online charts are general and you would need a metabolism test to truly know what *your* body requires.
